Fake. Not how Patriots numerical draft grades are presented RT @Nick_Underhill: http://www.brobible.com/sports/article/johnny-manziel-scouting-report-new-england-patriots/  RT @Raycribs: care to enlighten us?

Mike Loyko ‏@NEPD_Loyko  5m
It's at least not the final report. Not mention of combine, visit, one on one time together. The grading system doesn't seem right either

Howe and Loyko are calling it a fake.

Michael Schottey ‏@Schottey  51s
Shouldn’t have to say this, but I will…that Pats scouting report on Manziel is a fake.

NFL Philosophy ‏@NFLosophy  8m
The "leaked" Pats scouting report on Johnny Manziel is clearly fake. Numbers wrong. Presentation wrong. And dude uses TXTC instead of TAMU.

Love the 'generalities' that get thrown toward his relatives...."shady" and "always into something".

Sounds like the parents and agents for 90% of the kids in the draft.

They should leak the Aaron Hernandez scouting report too --- the one they obviously ignored.

----

And if this "is" real -- the Pats are going to get skewered.

Wouldn't they use the new "PATRIOTS" logo on their scouting reports?

Skewered by who?

Well certainly by the media and by the league (not that they'd care terribly) as you need to have control of your documentation / information.

More importantly by agents (for future talent) that fear of "official" information / opinions such as these enter into the mainstream. It damages their client(s) for the short and long-term (they will be free agents in the future as well).

The header and logo on that page seem rather slap-dash

The media LOVES leaks. They won't care. If someone swiped confidential info and leaked it, it's not really the Patriots fault.

That said, I don't even think it's real. The writer seems to get a bit crazier as it goes on and by the last update he's calling his family outlaws. Also, did the Patriots scouting of him stop in October?

It's fake. I don't see why anyone would think, reading that thing, that the Patriots employ scouts that write like a bunch of Exercise Science majors.

Shredded, like Edelman, Julian.

Of course, when they refer to #12, it's just as "Tom."

So, if I throw one of these together and put BB on it, will they think it came from Bill Belichick?

Like I said earlier, the right logo isn't even on the document. I think it's been over a year since I've seen that logo used anywhere. I mean, I suppose it's possible that they don't pay that close attention to their scouting report templates, but I think it's safe to assume their scouting reports would display the proper team logo.

I find it hard to believe that Bill Belichick in particular, and the Patriots brass and general, would accept a synopsis that included the terminology "Big time", as in "Big time maintenance will be needed on and off the field."  LIkewise, the grammar is pretty shitty.

Donald Sterling would provide a Teddy Bridgewater scouting report free of charge.

I don't know much about scouting and how people develop in the profession, but is it common for former linebackers to scout blue chip QBs?

That's a legit question --- but 'NFL football' seems to be one of those rare environments where loads of responsiblity are given to individuals that might not have the typical background / resume to fulfill the expected requirement.

I mean Caserio was a Patriots scout three years after leaving John Carroll University as a QB and the WR coach on the '07 Pats which included Randy Moss.

Tannenbaum is an accountant / lawyer was thrust into an NFL GM spot and is now an agent for coaches.

The NFL is a bizarre place in terms of employment from what I've seen.

I'm trying to figure out how missing a series against MSUN puts him at a 1 on the "injury/durability" scale.  Especially for a franchise that drafted guys like Easley and Gronkowski.

From a former Bucs scout.

Umm--it has TXTC "sources" because that's where Kingsbury is now. It says TAMU elsewhere.

I generally like Deadspin, but their eagerness to give credence to anything embarrassing to pro sports is one of their great blind spots.  They should have known this thing was totally fake.

Bah. So it does. But the main point of that tweet is still incorrect.

TXTC sources would have info on Manziel since his offensive coaches went there.

Dale, Holley, and Curran were all running with the "former scout who lost their job and wants to burn the Pats with this" angle.

I found it interesting that Holley was incredulous that the scout would compare Manziel and Edelman's body type. Holley said if the scout brought that up in a meeting, "he'd be laughed out of the building." Curran said it was probably just more of a point of reference for people that haven't been around Manziel. Holley wasn't having it and thought it was the worst offense of the report.

Deadspin and company so obviously want this to be true, but it's not. The bloodlines remark is Onion like -- as if Donald Sterling wrote the goddamn report. Until proven otherwise, I find it hard to believe the team would employ any moron capable of writing anything like this that is not a spoof.

The "upgrade over Tebow, higher ceiling than Hoyer" part is an obvious red flag w/r/t its authenticity.  Hoyer was cut before the 2012 season and was never on the team at the same time as Tebow.  Did the "scout" forget that Mallett exists?

I happened to be in the car from 2-6 on Friday and EVERY SINGLE TIME I flipped over to WEEI, Dale was in full-on school marm mode. "This is not fair to the young man!" in the slightly strained and Flanders-y tone he has, while both Curran and Holley tried, failed, tried again, failed again and then gave up telling him it was fake.

"Was it Jason Licht? Why would he leak it?"
