Wow. I was rooting for Mac but I'm surprised that they were this decisive.

Big credit to someone who called this move out just yesterday in one of the Mac/Cam threads. Buy some scratch-offs asap!

I wonder if this was at Cam’s request since he wouldn’t be the starter and all his money was tied to playing time incentives.

Woah. So much for Bill proclaiming Cam’s the man. Speculating if vaccine intransigence did him in.

Definitely the right call. Cam gets a shot to catch on somewhere else (Maybe Houston?), and Mac gets the keys. Cam was not an ideal back up for Mac and I'm going to assume he and BB had a handshake agreement that if he wasn't starting he'd be released.

Whoa - I think it’s probably the right move but I really didn’t see this coming. Guess this is more doing Cam a favor than anything else, since now he can (maybe?) find a starting job elsewhere as opposed to being Mac’s backup?

I wonder if they would bring him back. Obviously he’s got enough stature to want to look around first.

Edit: This could be a thing the Pats are doing out of respect for Newton. Rather than make him the #2, they give him a chance to go look for a better job first.

WOW. I imagine this has to be to avoid any type of locker room divide, because Cam at least has value as a backup/goal line heavy package option.

How many times has a QB started each preseason game and been cut?

Wow.

If they decided that Mac was better I can see this being BB's modus operandi. He would not want Mac looking over his shoulder at Cam every time he made a mistake.

That being said, I'm shocked.

I do enjoy that BB doesn’t try to hedge. When he has a guy he goes all in. Let’s rock.

If he could throw the ball I don't think his vaccination status would have mattered one bit. He is cooked.

I'm not surprised he was released. I was hoping there was a trade market for him though. It was clear Mac was the better quarterback and gives the team a better chance to win.

Bill doesn't fuck around. I feel bad for Cam because he was a model teammate and very fun to root for when things were going well, but this is clearly Mac's team going forward and its into the fire with him.

Umm what is the plan for backup? Hoyer isn't a guy who should be a 3rd QB nevermind backup

BB makes moves that are in the best interests of the football team. This is pretty undeniably so.

Wow, that was not the way I expected this to play out. BB really does go with whatever move he believes gives them the best chance. Will be interesting if this ends up similar to the locker room reaction to Lawyer Milloy and the ensuing Bills game. ~2 weeks gives him plenty of time to let the team process this.
