It seemed like he was upset that he was paid as a RT and then shifted to LT. I just wonder if he could be salvaged at this point, thereby reducing the to-do list by one.
Has he said anything about that? I'm not sure I buy it if you are just guessing.

He hasn't looked like the same athlete as we saw in 2018 since he came back. His feet seem slower.

There was some speculation coming out of preseason, mostly after the Raiders practices.

Twitter paste:
4. Brown gets 6.5 million this yr, including just 1.5 in base salary. Would he have signed that knowing he was the LT? Brown told me it was never conveyed to him that he would be LT. More figure it out. He had a moment in the Carolina preseason week where he was sat down...

He also was sick for like a month, which coincided with his really bad games. Just a perfect storm of a season.

I'm not following why he would be upset playing LT for RT money. He signed a contract that the market set. If another team thought he could play LT and was worth LT money, he would have signed with them instead. The Patriots could ask him to long snap or punt and he would still be worth whatever they're paying him.

It sounds like a load of bullshit, yeah.

I assume he thinks if he was told he was going to play as a LT he would have been paid more because it's a more valuable position. I get it.

Like said upthread though, no one really thought he could do that because if they did he would have been paid like it.

Brown played better at the end of the season, after he revealed he had lost something like 15 pounds while he was dealing with the flu and its aftereffects for a month. I would prefer that the Pats find another option at LT if possible, and move Brown back to RT, as he seems to be more of a JAG at LT while he's been very good at RT in the past. Either way, it will not be hard to upgrade from Wynn at RT.

Interesting. Klemm must have impressed.
OL/RGC? Would they do that?
Would Klemm accept strictly OL?

I would think OL coach in the NFL is a better gig for a man with ambition than OL/RGC in college.

(I just discovered that Klemm won 3 SB rings with the Pats with 10 starts over 4 years, 2001-2004).
He left a NFL OL coach to take the OL/RGC/AHC position he has now. Maybe he just wanted out of Pitt for some reason but I could see why he and others would look at that as a higher step on the ladder.

Would not be surprised if Klemm not only comes on to run the line but is an OC in training under BOB. Would make sense if O'Brien has bigger goals.

Pats will also interview Bills assistant Ryan Wendell, per Breer.
"The Patriots are flying Bills assistant Ryan Wendell to Vegas (the coaches are at the Shrine Game) to interview for their OL coach job, per sources. Wendell played in New England from 2008-15. Wendell was a reserve OL during new Pats OC Bill O'Brien's first stint in Foxboro."

So one option instead of (or in addition to) the draft would be to sign a top OT free agent. The Pats will have the cap space, but besides Orlando Brown (and maybe Lewan), the top FAs are all RTs. Are we willing to give the Trent Brown at LT experiment another try with a more competent coaching staff? Or should the target be someone who can play LT?

Orlando Brown (26): young, above average NFL LT. Top free agent in the class. Very good pass protector but not elite due to athletic limitations, and is looking to be paid like an elite LT. Is it worth giving Brown close to Trent Williams money to be able to just forget about the position?

Mike McGlinchy (28): young, excellent run blocker, not as good in pass pro but not bad. I don’t think he’s ever played LT in the NFL.

Kaleb McGary (28): my take is he’s a worse version of McGlinchy. Great run blocker, but poor in pass pro. Had a career year playing on the most run heavy team. Plays RT.

Other options:

Taylor Lewan (31): was an elite LT as recently as a couple years ago, but is recovering from his 2nd ACL. Almost a certain cap casualty since TEN can cut his $14M salary for zero dead cap.

Jawaan Taylor (25): had a pretty good year in pass protection. PFF rates him as a poor run blocker. Mostly played RT, very limited experience at LT.

Isaiah Wynn (27): outside of this season, he’s actually been a pretty decent LT. but he’s not reliable and has dealt with a ton of injuries. Maybe his poor performance in ‘22 was due to the positional change and you could run it back for a year with Brown/Wynn playing their preferred positions on the cheap while you take a shot on a developmental tackle in the draft.
