This article says that:

Fully vaccinated players and tiered staff will be subject to "strategic, targeted spot testing as directed by the NFL Chief Medical Officer [Dr. Allen Sills].
So it isn't clear that the individuals on the Pats were not vaccinated. Having 100% of all players vaccinated and boosted should obviously be the goal but it isn't going to avoid having some guys land on this list so long as they continue some testing of asymptomatic vaccinated players.

Always nice to proactively blame someone for something that hasn't happened and we have zero evidence to think it will.
I can't discuss a hypothetical scenario on a message board? Get off your fucking high horse . Or if you don't want to discuss the matter, don't.

Trying to get people who are unvaccinated at this point to change their minds is like trying to get someone to change religions. That's a lot to put on Bill.
Ron Rivera brought in a Harvard immunologist to talk to his players, and some of them still said they needed to “do their own research.” If Bill Belichick can overcome Dunning-Kruger, forget Coach of the Year, give him a Nobel Prize.
I agree with you guys but 95% of players are vaccinated across the league and a number of teams have reportedly gotten to 100%. So its pretty clear that teams are much more successful overall at getting players vaccinated than the population at large and that a number of teams figured out how to get to 100% or very very close. This isn't the same as trying to get your Trumpy uncle to take the jab. There is no mandate but the organizations have a lot of potential leverage in appealing to the personal professional and financial interests of the player as well as the damage that remaining unvaccinated can do to the team.

There's a difference between discussing hypotheticals and saying that the hypothetical is BB's fault. The "fault" lies solely at the cleats of those who don't get vaccinated.

He could be ignoring protocols and what not, but FWIW, I don't recall seeing Bourne wearing a mask at all this year either on the sideline or general media availability.

How can they appeal to the financial interests of a the player? The NFLPA would be up their ass if a team suspended a player for not being vaccinated. They were up teams asses for potentially cutting players due to vaccination status.

The difference between 95% and 100% on a 53-man roster is ~2.5 guys.

I think that converting those 2.5 guys into adopters has more to do with the 2.5 guys in question than the motivational skills of the head coach. We have many threads talking about changing folks' minds on this subject and how some people take denial all of the way to the ventilator and beyond.

Iirc, Bolden and Stevenson are the two I've seen recently masked at the podium, but I'm honestly not sure I've seen Bourne do a presser.

Didn't the NFL announce a rule over the summer that if you have to cancel a game due to an outbreak in unvaccinated players, the game won't be made up and players won't get paid? I would think that provided both financial and competitive reasons and that most teams probably appealed to those reasons when talking to players.

There is definitely a role of the dice element in terms of the players on your roster and their personal proclivities. But I wouldn't just assume that organizations had no meaningful role to play in impacting the proportion of their players who ended up taking the vaccine.

I'm not assuming that guys haven't been influenced or won over through conversations. This has probably happened on most teams. But a stick in the mud is what it is. Bill F. Belichick, George Patton, and Jesus of Nazareth might not change their minds. And that doesn't speak to their persuasive skills or effort imo. Some people can't be convinced.

There is only so much the coaching staff can actually do. The NFL and NFLPA have guidelines for both vaxx'ed and unvaxx'ed players, and Belichick like the every other coach and GM in the league has to adhere to them. Blaming him for the team not reaching full 100% vaccination status is silly.

The possibilities for Bourne is that he (a) had mild breakthrough symptoms and tested positive; (b) was vaxxed, tested positive in a random test, but is asymptomatic; or (c) was unvaxxed and tested positive in the routine screen for unvaxxed players. Until and unless we hear more info, anything else is just speculation at this point.

On the Toucher & Rich show this morning, the Pats beat writer for The Athletic said that Bourne is vaccinated. But hey, maybe its BB's fault that the Pfizer vaccine isn't 100% effective at preventing breakthrough infections? Just asking questions.

That would be a question and a half. "Bill, do you think you could have done more to get everyone vaccinated"?
"Pfizerno. Mona Lisa Derno Whatever. We've encouraged them to get vaccinated."

McDaniels: Hits on the receivers weren't dirty
"“Both were kind of bang-bang plays…I thought that Indy wasn’t doing anything egregious whatsoever…I don’t think either play was dirty.”

I thought Mac left his receivers out to dry on a lot of throws Saturday. He nearly got Jakobi killed and then got Harry killed. That's the kind of shit that makes his receivers lose trust, he needs to be better.

He got Harry killed because the safety launched with his head and drilled Harry early on a helmet-to-helmet hit.

But he did leave Jonnu out to dry on a couple of throws and also with Jakobi. The Harry one though was a blatant personal foul on Indy that just wasn't called.

I've got a customer who has had cancer.

Twice.

And he refuses to get vaccinated; another customer of mine is an immunologist, so I kindly asked him to reach out to my unvaccinated customer, his wife and both of his daughters are fully vaccinated and now have boosters, she begged me to try to convince him to get vaccinated.

My immunologist customer after texting him back and forth told me "I've run into a lot of antivaccine types the past two years....................he takes the cake; as a matter of fact, he takes the whole bakery. And then some. He's too far gone to reason with. I wish him and his family all the luck in the world; with his immune system/his cancer history, if he gets COVID, it's goodnight sweet prince, which is very sad IMO."

As the Captain said in Cool Hand Luke "What we have here is a failure to communicate; some men just can't be reached"...................

Jonnu leaves himself out to dry. He runs horrible routes and does not properly use his body to shield defenders. On the Jonnu play up the seam, he had some open space that Mac tried to lead him to, but instead Jonnu ran straight into the safety. He is not a smart player.

Yeah Jonnu's football IQ is really painful to watch. Has no ball skills, no sense for the defenders, and no idea where he is in space.

He is pretty good with the ball in his hands when good schemes get him wide open but throwing the ball to him on a regular route with half decent coverage is almost always a terrible idea.

A decent chunk of Mac's near INTs (and a couple actual INTs) are passes to Jonnu when he looks completely lost and doesn't even make a competitive route/play on the ball. It's really disappointing.

Losing Stevenson sucks. He was a stud in the first Buffalo game. Taylor is off the COVID list tho. Hopefully he can provide some contribution. But this has all the signs of a greater emphasis on the passing game.

Foreboding injury update on Christian Barmore from @MikeReiss on Patriots Fifth Quarter.

Said after observing Barmore after the game, "I wouldn't expect him in the playoffs, and this is the type of thing that looks like it'll affect his offseason. He was very emotional."
Fuck that sucks especially if it impacts his off-season. Was really excited for a second year leap. If he has to work just to be able to step on the field that’s a downer.

I’m thinking it’s some kind of fracture, given the injury mechanism and the fact that he couldn’t even put any weight on it. Honestly, I’d prefer that to a ligament injury for the long-term

Sucks for this year but a fracture probably is better looking ahead to next year, right?
