Lol he had a legit charlie horse. Worst ever maybe.
That's really what I thought in real time from the hit -- either charlie horse or something smashed up inside the leg -- as it didn't appear to be as much a torquing injury as an impact blast. But as we know from Cam Neely, a charlie horse can be quite serious. Or Bledsoe, who had a freak injury from a direct hit.

I thought so too, then went to broken femur when I saw the reaction. These guys have telephone poll legs and it’s not too hard to imagine one hitting a bone just the wrong way. He’s so important to having a potential for solid line play ((Scar’s interview with Phil stated they will really only move forward when they can have repeated practices and game’s)

Didn’t see the injury and might not even be the same part of the thigh, but remember this?

https://www.masslive.com/patriots/2019/08/retired-patriot-rob-gronkowskis-super-bowl-injury-was-so-bad-he-had-a-liter-of-blood-removed-from-leg.html?outputType=amp

I hope Andrews’ version is less severe…
I believe I had a similar injury when I was a teenager playing soccer around 40 years ago. Somebody slid into my thigh with their cleats (they were metal back in the day). It burst a blood vessel and my thigh blew up like a balloon with blood inside. It was the most painful injury I've ever had and I've had multiple broken legs. I was able to walk after a few days, however, a walk to my school bus that usually took 5 minutes, took 30 minutes. Any little twitch of my body brought out severe pain, so even resting it was sore. If my memory is correct, it took me around 1 month before I could play again and that was without any treatment or special equipment. For an elite athlete, with treatment and modern equipment, i would suspect that 1-2 weeks may be a good recovery time. If it is a similar injury to Andrews, then I can certainly understand the pain he was in.

NFL/NFLPA investigating why the spotter failed to catch the DeVante Parker concussion
The NFL and NFL Players Association are reviewing the circumstances surrounding New England Patriots receiver DeVante Parker's concussion during Monday night's win over the Arizona Cardinals and his removal from the game, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.
Parker left the prime-time game after taking a hit in the first quarter against Arizona. The Patriots receiver caught a 10-yard pass on a slant with 4:19 left in the first frame before being tackled by Cardinals defensive back Antonio Hamilton.
After the play, Parker appeared to struggle with his balance as New England lined up for its next play; fellow receiver Nelson Agholor and quarterback Mac Jones also appeared to signal to the referees that Parker should be checked for a concussion. Before the play could be run, Arizona stopped play by challenging the receiver's catch. Parker was then removed from the game and eventually ruled out with a head injury.
The NFL-NFLPA review comes months after Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was allowed to return to a Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills, prompting modifications to the concussion protocol. Both the NFL and NFLPA agreed to add ataxia to the list of "no-go" symptoms.
Ataxia is defined as "abnormality of balance/stability, motor coordination or dysfunctional speech caused by a neurological issue."
Parker is fifth on the Patriots in receptions (25) and second in receiving yards (460). He has been on the field for 60.9% of New England's offensive snaps this season.
The Patriots (7-6) play at the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 15.

LV is the last team the Patriots *might* be able to beat while shorthanded. (they may not be able to beat the other 3 while at full strength, but definitely not if down 5 offensive regulars.)

Collins was elevated last week and got in only 5 snaps on D (6 ST snaps). How many times can he be elevated?

Is that it for Wynn for the season? How many weeks does he have to sit out? Could he come back for playoffs? <insert Jim Mora "playoffs" gif>
He has to sit out a minimum of four games before being eligible to return to the active roster, so we may have seen his last on-field snap as a Patriot.

They’ll have to play almost exclusively zone with that corner group behind Jonathan Jones. I’m ready for a lot of complaints about ‘prevent’ defense in the game thread.

Marcus Jones still in concussion protocol. Huge bummer but hope he gets better. Such an exciting player.

And yeah these injuries are going to be the final nail in the coffin. I’m glad they’re at Foxboro and hopefully it will be cold. But I think the weather will actually be pretty mild so that doesn’t even help.

And the secondary will probably get torched by Hill and Waddle, even with Bridgewater throwing.

I’m fearing a Miami win, something in the 24-17 range.

Not that this team deserves many breaks, but man, they can't any.

We're really going to need some pressure from the DL to compete. More than 28 snaps for a hopefully healthy Barmore would help

I mean, the opponent is missing their starting QB.... pretty big break in the NFL.
Yes, you're right--my thought wasn't fully formed. They miss their starting QB and then we're down like 37 DBs...

We can't just get the break and run with it, it's gotta be evened out somehow.

yeah, that's just the NFL in 2022 though, almost everybody is just wracked with injuries right now to key players

I am amazed that they have all these rules to protect QBs and the QBs have been dropping like flies all year. A lot of teams have used 3 or more QBs. Part of the success of Cincinnati, KC, and Buffalo is their QBs are sublime and have remained healthy enough to start all their games.

One thing seemed to be the case over the past 20 years or so is that the NFL truly is a war of attrition. The Patriots constructed their teams with fewer stars than other teams, but with better depth. When they were healthy, they won championships. When they were not healthy, they were still really good because of that depth, but they didn't have the horses to beat teams that came into the Super Bowl or championship game more healthy.

QBs dropping like flies this year.

Lamar Jackson gets breathed on and he's got gastrointestinal problems or leg problems. Tua gets touched and he's in the protocol. Dak gets hurt literally every year. Justin Fields, a machine, has been hurt multiple times this year. Baker's entire body broke down last year, although that was his only injury year as a pro. Herbert had his ribs shattered and he absolutely sucks relative to his normal play because of it. Stafford broke like his spine and his neck. Trevor has a bad foot right now. Russell Wilson, concussed. Jameis also broke his spine. Mac hurt his ankle. Jimmy G and Trey, both taken out. Tannehill hurt. Kyler done. Hurts shoulder. Wentz got hurt. Mike White got hurt. Zach Wilson got hurt.

The list is long and distinguished. And then guys who can't move like Brady and Cousins and Goff have been healthy. Running QBs are in a hellish spot, except for Allen because he's a tank but that is going to go wrong for him at some point. But for now, he gets sent to hell with a brutal hit and he pops back up like Rocky Balboa fighting Drago. If Lamar took hits like Allen, he would be out of the NFL.

The reality is, QBs who run and get hit get hurt. Always. There are very few exceptions. Even Fields is not an exception and he's very young and a tank like Allen.

It may not affect Allen much in any season anytime soon, but the cumulative effect will cut his career short down the line. Maybe in another world he'd be able to play (and play well) into his late 30s, but the abuse he takes (even though it looks like he dishes it out more than he takes it) probably means that he will only be able to play (and play well) til like age 33-35. It'll definitely catch up to him at some point.

To be fair, I did say it would go wrong for him at some point, so I very much agree.

I just heard somewhere that with some new QB starting this weekend (forget which one), it's the 64th different quarterback to start a game this season, which breaks the non-strike season record set in 2007.

And game 17/week 18 will blow that out of the water between additional injuries and teams who have nothing to play for in that final game playing other QB's -- either to protect/rest starters or to try out bench guys.

Teams that have had three different starting QBs in games this season
Patriots
Dolphins
Jets
Titans
Colts
Panthers
Cardinals
49ers
Rams (started four)

*Would have added Saints, but wasn't sure Hill ever started a game at QB
** Texans list three quarterbacks as have started games, but those add up to 17 games ... which is impossible, so might have started in other position?

Yeah, you and I see this the same way for sure. I think Buffalo ought to cut back on his running during the regular season, even if it means one or two more losses. Let it rip in the playoffs and they'll get a lot more mileage out of him in the long run.

So 9 teams contributed 28 QB's (of the 64 that Death cited). That means that the other 23 teams had 36, so 13 teams had two each and only 10 teams had just one starting QB all season.
