Interesting. I wonder what effect this will have on property owners that allow people to park on their property. I would imagine less people would be willing to pay a private entity when they can park in a patriot controlled lot for free?

That's my curiosity as well. There didn't seem to be much downward price pressure when Gillette introduced free delayed exit parking and reduced the cost of the lots across route one.

It’s a substantial decrease. Would be curious on the math vs the ticket price increase. Obviously it is like 3-4 times fewer cars vs people but from a total revenue standpoint it’s interesting. There’s also a psychological issue at play. Easier to swallow the ticket price increase with free parking. Akin to paying a higher price for something on Amazon and getting free shipping. I’m happier paying for the product.

Love this move. Before last year, I always ponied up to park in the stadium side lots when I went to games, I did not last year when they raised it to $80. The fact that for a couple hundred bucks I can get a transferrable pass to every game is fantastic.

Before the discount for the Germany game, my invoice went up a little less than 20%, but for the first time in forever. I have no complaints.

My per-game increase basically is the same $50 I normally paid to park across the street in P11. So I'll break even this year. I do like the idea of a heavily discounted season parking pass on the stadium side too, so I'm not complaining too much. I predict that parking in P10/P11 won't be free forever though.

It was a sizable hike overall. And we did just get a (smaller) hike in 2020, which was tagged as the "first in 6 years" at the time.

This kind of fucks over some of us.

I always, for 20+ years, have parked at the Foxboro Terminals, which is basically an abandoned property on the corner of Rte 1 and North Avenue (across from McDonalds and the liquor store on the opposite side of Rte. 1). It's on the stadium side, but if you walk up route 1, it's probably 3/4ths of a mile from the stadium itself. We park there and walk up the commuter rail tracks and then into the Gillette Parking lot.

We prefer it there, because when leaving, we're already on Rt. 1 North, and we aren't in the stadium lots getting stuck for hours. At this point, we tend to leave most non-big/non close games a bit early. That lot was, IIRC, $60 to park in last year.

And the Foxboro Terminals, if I'm not mistaken, are also owned by the Kraft family, but I'm assuming this "free" or "reduced" pricing on parking only applies to stadium affiliated lots, and not the commercial lots and buildings on Route 1 (that in most cases, Kraft also owns)...

Is what it is, I guess. Here's my question though, you get how many parking passes per ticket? I have 4 season tickets, but I never go down there with all 4 people in my car. Does that mean only one car gets the parking pass, or do they give out one pass for each ticket, etc?

As far as I know, you don't "get" any parking passes. The lots across the street from the stadium are just going to be free from now on. There was no indication that it has any link to season-ticket holder status.

OR, you can pay $225 for a season parking pass for parking in the stadium side lots. One pass = one car. I don't know if you can pay for multiple season parking passes for those lots, but I doubt it.

EDIT: This was the exact message from the email:
  1. Free general parking: To improve the efficiency of arriving traffic, parking will be free in all stadium-owned general parking lots (across Route 1 from the stadium).

  2. Be paid to park: Those who choose to park in our 75-minute delayed-release lot will earn a $50 Visa gift card when entering the lot.

  3. Stadium-side prepaid parking: Season Ticket Members have the option to purchase an electronic and transferable season parking pass for $225 ($25 per game).

Gotcha, guess it sucks for those of us who choose not to park at the stadium and prefer to walk there to avoid the traffic. Seems to me this is going to create more congestion. If everyone that parks outside of the stadium lots now starts using those lots due to reduced/free parking, it's going to be a shit show.

I would have to think they'd limit this to STH, or at least game day ticket holders, only?
I think Ale means that after the game ends, spending the requisite 75 minutes watching the late games at the CBS bar? But if not, then yeah, I'll bet they'll require a gameday ticket to get the $50.

This is without a doubt. You're going to have more people arrive to Foxboro, no questions.

Maybe it's part of the plan. (Get more Patriot Place business)
It's going to be a big test on that first gameday to see how things shake out. They're pretty fast-and-loose with the "lots open 4 hours before kickoff" most of the time, but I hope they plan on opening the P10/P11 lots earlier to account for increased demand. I mean, I can easily burn 5 hours behind my car with my grill and beer instead of 4, but I have to know I can get into the lot if I'm going to make the hour+ drive and get there at 8am for 1PM games.

Shit. Just saying that makes me miss the smell of beer and charcoal in the crisp autumn air.

What if people want to buy tickets at halftime?
What if people don’t have their phones charged?
The whole point of this is to not have any interaction between parking people and attendees. Asking for proof of tickets removes that.

Well if your phone isn’t charged, you’re not getting into the game anyway, so no $50 for you.

But there would have to be interaction to get the $50 gift card, so it’s clearly not a “no touch” scenario. The no-touch applies to the free parking option.

I would be shocked, SHOCKED I say, if Kraft and Co. would have a loophole that just paid any rando $50 who showed up on gameday and parked in that lot.

It’s not Impossible, but it’s got to be pretty damn close.
