The mucky muck
Wow. Seemed like one of the few that Brady had confidence throwing to, even though he was inactive last week. Very weird.

I hear he yelled at McDaniels.

Anything that makes Tyms more likely to play is okay than me, though I was excited by some of Thompkins' flashes last year.

BB has lost his fastball as the GM. I honestly don't get this move. Thompkins should be immediately claimed on waivers.

I think Tyms is going to play a big role in the coming weeks.

The lack of transparency on things works great when the team is winning, but it's going to get ugly in the media if the team continues to perform like it did on Monday night.

They activated a LB from the practice squad and Collins is listed as questionable and Ebner is out. This might be a wink nod one week release of the 5th WR on the depth chart to cover an injury at MLB or add another core special teamer.

I don't really have any analysis, but I'm rather pissed about this. He seemed to do well enough once he was given a chance, but didn't seem like he was ever utilised enough. Tyms, come on down.

They aren't on the roster, at least from Reiss. Yeah, it was worded badly.

I guess they can't play, Kyed confirms:
The Patriots didn't promote Brandon Browner or Brian Tyms to the active roster yet. They won't play Sunday night. Must decide by Monday at 4

Perhaps Dobson/Tyms is a better option than Dobson/KT. It certainly looked that way in PS.

BTW, your first sentence has little to do with your second and vice versa.

He has a history of making poor choices. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he was very difficult to work with and couldn't adjust to changes in the offense.

How many chances should one person get, anyway? I'm fine with a league that doesn't have room for Adrian Peterson, but if Peterson can't find his way back, why would someone with Thompkins' history have another chance?

"The Patriots have lousy receivers!"

"BB has to gets some real targets for Brady before the window closes!"

"Patriots have cut a wide receiver!"

"BB has lost his fastball as a GM!!!"

As I'm reading through the posts in this thread, I happen to glance out my living room window and see a neighbor on my lawn picking up a dump her dog took the size of a canoe; yep, pretty much sums up my thoughts on this move.

A move at the WR had to be made once Tyms served his suspension. Who should have BB cut, Amendola? Dobson? Tyms even though he has clearly outplayed KT in PS?

Reads threads backwards
The Patriots are lousy at developing receivers.

The Patriots need a passing offense.

The Patriots cut a wide receiver that played meaningful minutes last year and made some big plays.

How will BB's WR knuckleball look this week? Butterfly or meatball?

How so? Because Price & Boyce didn't work out? Or Bethel Johnson? Was "Edelman" not developed by the Pats?

The same receiver could not crack an offense that desperately needed playmakers. 2 games played, 11 targets, 6 catches for KT this year.

Yes, it is overreaction.

And it will still be even if they lose Sunday night.

For the record, someone did say it in 2011. Some ninny says it every year. Some ninny even said it in 2007.

Entitlement: It's Yankee-fan-tastic.

I assume it's the lack of practice time, right? These guys will probably need a week or two to get acclimated.

Little known fact about that game. KT had exactly 2 catches before that (albeit magnificent) grab.

I'm sure he'll land somewhere (Jets 1 week before the Pats game?) and wish him all the luck. I'm also inclined to believe that he was the last WR option once Tyms came back.

Thompkins is a 4th or 5th receiver who doesn't play special teams.  He was beat out by Lafell and became redundant.  If the Patriots were depending on KT to be a difference maker they were not going anywhere.

Seems like he has turned his life around so I hope he is able to get back in the league.

There are two separate issues here: one, the Patriots' record at drafting and developing wide receivers, and the decision to let Thompkins go. The former is probably interesting to discuss--are the team's evaluation methods effective? Which receivers might they have passed over for reasons that have proven inadequate with hindsight? What aspects of the coaching might be at fault?

But Thompkins was an UDFA, and while he had some nice moments, letting an unproductive UDFA go is hardly a sign of organizational catastrophe. And while the team's record at drafting and evaluating college guys might be spotty, its record at in-house evaluation is superb.

Am sad that we won't see Browner tomOrrow though...was looking forward to what he could contribute.

Or 2x the number of receptions Amendola has this year.

Patience is required. Lots of stuff since the final rosters were first set have the whiff of deck chair arranging, but I'm waiting the next 12 games before passing any definitive judgments.

The only thing that really matters is the record. Whether good, bad or in between, the responsibility for it will be clear.

Volin's saying the Pats plan to add Thompkins to the Practice Squad if he clears waivers. I think he's flashed at times beating press and making contested catches - he's been better in both areas than Dobson, IMO - but he's been been pretty inconsistent and he's already 26.

Wow a lot of love for Thompkins. What has he ever shown to make people think he's going to be better than Lafell or Dobson, or even Amendola? He's 26 and a fringe roster player who couldn't break the top 4 WR on a team that can't throw.

If I told you the Pats would release a wideout this week on Tuesday, pretty much everyone would assume it would have been Dobson, right?

LaFell looks like he is starting to become accustomed to the offense and could end up being the deep threat the Pats desperately need, so along with Tyms, something had to give because this team has many problems, and a roster spot is valuable.

No. Dobson carries almost $1 MM in dead money, Thompkins less than $2K. Also, Dobson's three years younger.
