He has a job. He's now an ESPN analyst. So, it's not a former Colts guy being interviewed by ESPN, it's an ESPN "analyst" that can't let going of that fact his team failed so often compared to NE.

Colts SS LaRon Landry (concussion) has been cleared to practice.
Landry took a knee to the helmet late in last week's wild comeback win over the Chiefs. His return to practice means he's on track to get cleared in time to play in Saturday night's game at New England. It's a major boost for the Colts as they'll need his coverage skills if they'll have any prayer of slowing down Tom Brady.

Since Dobson is almost certainly out (and likely next week too), it concerns me that Thompkins has not caught a pass since Houston-- not even targeted, I believe. I expect him to reemerge.

Along with Blount, I expect more Develin--when not opening a hole, he can pick up Mathis on play-action. Vereen has kind of disappeared, after picking up 8 yds on 3 catches in Miami.

This has already been a really really long week for this bullshit and it's only Wednesday night.

Saturday can't come soon enough.

LOL. His coverage skills are so bad. He will help vs. the run, however.

Landry is ranked #20 in pass coverage among safeties who played at least 25% of the snaps (+3.5 rating) Not too bad, right? It seems it has come at the expense of his run support, which runs at -2.3 rating for #58 in the league.

Looking closer, his only good game in pass coverage came in week 1, vs. Oakland & Terrell Pryor. He has been pretty much average in all other games.

A hobbled Landry and the cupboard is barer than ever for the Colts secondary - Vontae Davis leads the team with +11.8 grade, and that basically is living off of a fantastic game vs Denver (+7.5). In the last three games, he has put up 1.8 (vs. KC), 0.1 (vs. Jax) and -1.0 (vs. KC).

Is it at all ironic that Manning somehow leads in the intangibles category and Brady is somehow fifth?

Edit... And because he was sacked more = less pocket prescience?? My eyes hurt from reading this.
Yeah, this is basically an "evaluation" of the passing offense of each team and not the ability of the QBs. Kaepernick and Brady's accuracy ranking is lower because their receivers were hurt, which makes no sense.

The Colts are fascinating. They beat Denver, Seattle and SF but were stomped on by the Rams, Cardinals and Bengals. Obviously, they are not as dangerous without Wayne.

That guy clearly, I mean CLEARY, started off with the idea of putting Brady last and just went from there.

I think he might have started with the idea of pumping up Andrew Luck and dumping Tom Brady. If you go strictly by QBR this year (I know), you get Manning-Rivers-Brees-Kaepernick-Luck-Brady-Wilson-Newton, while by QB Rating you get Manning-Rivers-Brees-Wilson-Kaepernick-Newton-Brady-Luck, and by DVOA you have Manning-Rivers-Brees-Kaepernick-Wilson-Brady-Luck-Newton.

Really, by almost any metric, Brady and Luck have had very similar seasons (Luck does a lot with his legs but, in general, you'd want Brady's passing performance) and both have done it with thin talent over much of the season (Luck's has been pretty consistently there but bad, Brady's had a lot of talent at times but at other times was begging for a warm body or two to put on the field). If he put Brady and Luck closer to the bottom and said "This is judging on 2013 statistics and scouting," there would be some validity there, but to put Luck at the top may be even worse than having Brady at the bottom.

It's almost like the ranking was made first and then the author worked backwards. Brady is ranked last and Luck is tied for first but statistically they were almost the same player this year.

But remember, only Pats fans think this happens.

Obviously I'm biased, but I can't for the life of me understand how the 2013 Patriots can seem unlikeable to anyone. Really, they are the definition of a rag tag group playing over their heads. They have been in dog fights all season long, had a ton of memorable finishes, have had the roster completely devastated by injuries. How is this edition of the New England Patriots "smug" in any way? It's ridiculous.

Because sustained excellence is resented greatly, and perhaps because they have the temerity to threaten the inevitability of Luck, if only on a short term basis.

Obviously the author the link above has no regard to playoff sample size.  Luck had an immense second half for which he deserves all the credit in the world.  But he had a poor first half, and in his only other playoff appearance -- round 1 against the Ravens in Baltimore last year -- he was inept.

I just Googled that and to be honest, some of it is moderately funny.

Not to mention, #30 is sort of a tribute to how good they are.

I don't even know where to begin...

How does winning a Super Bowl on a loaded team, after having your choice of where to play, make it more impressive? He's still running the same offense, and has by far and away the best weapons in the league. Manning's in a position where he is expected to win, and anything else can be viewed as a failure. There's no better place for a quarterback to succeed than Denver.

In the interest of balance -- not that anyone's views really matter -- but not all of the pundits are jumping off the porch to chase this car.

Heard both Brian Billick and Mel Kiper driving in this morning.  Neither gives the Colts a good chance to win.  Their rationales are football based and, ieven if you disagree, make sense.  It's not Shank "tomato can" crap.  It's just that Indy is severely limited and Luck can do only so much.

You guys understand that hating the Patriots is pretty much entirely borne out of jealousy, right?  The Patriots are the Yankees of the NFL.  Enjoy it.

A guy on r/patriots put together a video of all of TY Hilton's catches from last week's Wild Card game.

12 catches from the slot (one in a bunch formation) with only 1 coming from the outside. He abused #21 Dunta Robinson & #23 Kendrick Lewis so much that I thought they were the same guy until I saw them both on screen. Dunta Robinson only entered the game once Brandon Flowers went down with a concussion, playing only 18 snaps. From my count he beat man coverage 7 times, and zone 6. Most plays he seemed to be wide open with Lewis not having the speed or coverage skills to keep up.

Yeah, it's different, though. "Spygate" brought the hatred to a whole new level. The average NFL fan's hatred of the Patriots is far stronger and more prevalent than the average MLB fan's hatred of the Yankees, I feel. There are people out there that truly believe, with all their hearts, that the only reason the Patriots ever won anything is because the organization cheated (and probably still do).

The Patriots were more successful in 2001-2006 than they are right now, and I feel as if they were more respected and feared then, than outrighted despised as they are these days.

What if he is bounced in his first playoff game like last year? Does that make him Dan Marino?

A lot of volume records, multiple MVPs, one Super Bowl ring and countless playoff misfortunes. Sounds like Brett Favre sans dick pics.

That video is great.  I think it really illustrates how ridiculously hard it is to play defensive back in the NFL.

I think Davis may have been hit in the head too much as a player.

3 SB rings > 2 SB rings

And the whole 'two different teams' thing seems dumb to me.  Even if he was still a Colt, he would probably be one of the few guys left on the team who was there for the first SB, so that is just as much 'two different teams' as the current situation.

The impressive feat, should Manning win the SB, will be doing so after the neck surgeries.  That still won't trump a 3rd ring, though.

PFF has 32 observations about the 8 remaining playoff teams. I was shocked to learn that Cannon has not allowed a sack since taking over for Vollmer. Richardson has been a disaster for the Colts, he has not had a game with >4 yd/carry this year.

With no or minimal turnovers I think this game comes down to if the Pats can find 25-50 yards of Offense from People not named
Edelman
Vereen
Amendola
Ridley
LGBT

Bolden, Devlin, Thompkins, Hooman/Mulligan, Boyce and Collie.   Can we get 4-8 yards from each? Or a total 25-50?

I crunched a bunch of numbers that probably have no scientific basis, but it seems to me we need to gain about 370 yards to win.
Conversely we need to hold the Colts to around 350-370 Yards.  Rough numbers indicate that they should be around 320-350.

I think we win by 7-10 pts and I think these offense yards numbers will be close.

As I said...Turnovers either way will totally whack these numbers.

How the heck are you coming up with those numbers?  Why is Bolden on the list as the 4th running back?  He's probably only getting a carry if someone gets injured, so any yards he gets are likely bad news.

Boyce is on IR.

The Pats lost to the Bengals, Jets, Panthers, and Dolphins. Sure those teams got good QB play in those games but all those teams have excellent front sevens on defense. Its hard for me to believe that this Colts defense is going to stifle the NE running and passing games. Not with a banged up secondary and Mathis being the only excellent player in the Colt front seven. Hell, they just gave up 44 points to the Chiefs without Charles.
