Played with James Ferentz (2 time SB Champion lol) on same line in college

not sure if that’s a good or bad thing

former first round pick though (RR)

Reiff was pretty serviceable for the Bengals in 2021 before hurting his ankle late in the year - the interior was way more of the problem. The pass protection was so-so, but he still had power in the run game. I don't know how well he played last year and he's 34 now, so who knows what you're getting.

I commented on it in one of the general threads, but this is presumably a low $ move, and gives the Patriots more experienced pros in the room to compete for spots. Reiff isn't what he was, but he's still a long-time NFL starter

Reiff was a very good, really underrated tackle for several years. If he's washed, then he doesn't see the field. But if he is able to give 85% of what he gave in Det/Min, then he's probably a better player than what we saw from Cannon/Wynn last season.

So between Reiff, Anderson, and Cajuste's RFA tender, the Pats seem to be in good shape depth-wise at OT. But I'm not super convinced that any of these guys are going to be consistent starters.

I have no opinion of the signing but every time I see the thread title I do a double take - like what is going on with Pat Riley?

Might the Pats use his run-blocking skills in packages as the 6th OL?

Solid player - and having a professional T out there will be a welcome improvement.

I also think it’s beneficial they won’t have to rely on any top 75-100 pick to be a day 1 starter.

The fact that there are $4m in playing time incentives makes it pretty clear they aren't sure. It seems like a reasonable structure, though. If he's good enough to start, $9m is fine to good. If he's not, he's expensive but not outlandish depth.

Probably a bit more than I'd want to do, but options seem fairly limited.

It tells me they think he's likely to start. He may get beat out by a rookie, or turn into a pumpkin and lose time to Anderson or McDermott, but I'll be surprised if they add a more expensive veteran tackle. On the other hand, it doesn't preclude a high pick at that position; I think it's pretty likely. And as you say, he could be displaced by a first-rounder in a way that, say, McGlinchey wouldn't be.

Reiff played 55% of snaps last year so I guess only the 1st $800k is considered LTBE.

He played 543 out of 1034 offensive snaps, 52.5%.

Can pretty much guarantee when it's an unusual % of snaps a guy has to hit to make an incentive, the number will barely be high enough to make it NLTBE.
