Where it rains. No, seriously.
Personal life[edit]
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Austin, Texas, Anderson's father played college football at Army and was a military flight surgeon who also obtained a Master of Business Administration, became an ordained minister, and served as a physician before retiring as a full-bird colonel in 2019.[18] Anderson has gained notoriety for having the ability to solve a Rubik's Cube different ways, such as behind his back or blindfolded.[19] He was also named a brand ambassador for Rubik's Cube in 2019, representing the company at international events in the offseason.[20] A mathematical economic analysis major at Rice, Anderson once made a PowerPoint presentation to his parents to get them to invest in Nintendo.[21]

He was already with the Pats for a cup of coffee as an UDFA in 2019 so there's at least something resembling familiarity there.

Signed as UDFA by Pats in 2019, but then claimed on waivers by Jets soon afterward.

Feature last season from Mile High Sports.

First the Pats had a tuba player, now they added a snare drum guy.

Seems like they just got Lawrence Guy a new best friend.

he has played both sides, and graded out pretty decently as a passblocker on the left. Seems likely he's coming in to be the swing tackle, or start until a rookie gets up to speed.
$$ will tell us more, if it's higher than expected maybe they see him as the starter.

He was with the Pats for all of about two weeks after signing as a FA following the 2019 draft -- I wonder why he had such a short stay.

Appears to be a depth signing and I know less about swing tackles than actual guys I might draft in my fantasy league, so....depth is good.

As BBtL's resident Rice alum, I'm a big fan of this move. Was bummed when he got dumped in 2019 (he was only there for like 3 days of mini-camp, I think it was a last-in, first-out kinda thing).

So do we think he’s good enough that you can go into the draft and not have to pick a tackle round one if draft doesn’t fall the right way?

You don't HAVE to pick a Tackle round 1 either way. I mean, if you pick the 4th, 5th, 6th best tackle in this draft he's likely a project and there's a good chance he's going to suck as a rookie probably have to fight to beat out McDermott. Anderson is probably a little better than McDermott, particularly on the left.

Either way, if you miss the top tackles, using your 14th on a tackle when you think there are better options on the board is a mistake no matter who you have rostered. Decent chance there is someone there at 46 in the project group.

I’m not sure about that-I think you need better than McDemott on the roster if you want to have a good offense next season and I’m not sure you can get that at 46.

I get that you don’t want to draft Andre Dillard instead of Earl Thomas but not getting better than McDermott might sink your season offensively.

If you miss your guy at 14 you won't have better than McDermott on the roster short term and you're down a potentially elite CB/Edge/WR, etc. The point was just because you use a 1st round pick on a guy doesn't mean he'll be NFL ready, even more so if you're only using a 1st because you're trying to plug a roster hole. Outside maybe RB, draft picks should generally be thought of as guys who'll be rotation players or backups year 1 and starters down the line. Using the draft like FA to plug immediate holes rarely works.

I generally agree and the last thing you want to do is overpay to draft a bad tackle (cough Eugene Chung) but there are a couple points I’d make:

1.) Every team needs two competent tackles and apart from Anderson the Pats have one under contract and none next year 2.) agree thst you shouldn’t count on draft picks in year one except I wouldn’t extend this to top 20’or so picks. Unless your team is loaded it’s absolutely reasonable to expect first round picks to contribute as starters year one-and if they don’t they’re probably busted picks.
3) in this particular draft I think you likely need to use a first round pick to get a tackle who would be competent at tackle year one. You might only be talking about Johnson Jones and Wright.
Its definitely bad business to pick bad players instead of good ones or to pick a tackle like Chung instead of say Darren Woodson because there was a run on tackles-but if you don’t have a competent tackle than this year perhaps more than others you need to pick them high.

Edit: I think we’re saying the same thing-what you don’t want to do is be in a position where you have to pick a particular position and end upwith , for example, Wynn and Sony Michel. So the question
is whether Anderson is good enough that you don’t feel compelled to fill a tackle spot with a first round pick

My son actually made us a PowerPoint presentation last night, but it was to convince us to by him new sneakers and it contained multiple spelling errors. We have a ways to go, but then again I ain't no surgeon, minister and/or Colonel, myself.
