Pre-Draft Analysis
Harris is coming off a disappointing 2021 season that amplified concerns about the back surgery he underwent following the 2020 season. But he had his best game of the year (182 yards rushing, 1 TD) against North Carolina in the Duke's Mayo Bowl, and he has the talent to quickly develop into a No. 2 based on his 2020 tape. Harris is an instinctive inside runner with good burst for his size. -- Steve Muench
Going for 2 RBs is a bit of a surprise. Makes me wonder if they are open to trading Damien Harris?

ST or Practice squad stash probably? It's the 6th, you aren't picking guys who are likely to play much as rookies, and the RB room is getting a makeover for 2023 and 2024. Bolden gone, likely White and Harris too.

I think most of these picks have some logic behind them. Running back with a history of back injury who doesn't catch the ball? Maybe he'll turn out to be a steal, but after G/WR/CB/CB/RB/QB I would have thought there were other positions of need before a second RB, especially one with an injury history.

Idk how many needs one can really fill in the 6th round.

Not too many, historically.
  • QB (Brady, 2000)
  • STer (Ebner, 2012)
  • LB (E.Roberts, 2016)
  • OL (Karras, 2016; Onwenu, 2020; Herron, 2020)
Pats also took a few guys in the 6th who went on to decent careers elsewhere.

They didn't draft any of those guys to fill current needs, though (except maybe Ebner). They drafted them hoping they would be players & they were.

I don't think I agree. Onwenu and even Herron played right away - I tend to think there was some expectation that they would.

They've drafted offensive linemen earlier who have never played. It's not an exact science.

They don't know what they have until they come in & show it. If they did know, they would draft them earlier.

Regarding K. Harris: Brandon Bolden is getting a little long in the tooth. Maybe they see Harris as a potential replacement for him?

Lance Zierlein:
“Patriots new RB Kevin Harrison from S Carolina is talented. His evaluation requires a look at the 2020 tape when he was healthy. At full health, he’s one of the top 6-8 RBs in this class.”

Matt Waldman, another guy who’s opinion I pay attention to in the comments says “I agree”
This Kevin Harrison sounds awesome. Too bad BB drafted Kevin Harris.
