Portland, OR isn't looking too hot. Perhaps Direct TV would be a good investment in both money, health and Sunday productivity

Week 1 vs. Pittsburgh: TV Thursday NBC
Week 2 at Buffalo: BAR (TN)
Week 3 vs Jacksonville: BAR (SD)
Week 5 at Dallas: BAR national CBS game, but DEN/OAK will trump)
Week 6 at Indy: TV SNF NBC
Week 7 vs Jets: BAR (25% on)
Week 8 vs Miami: TV Thursday CBS
Week 9 vs Washington: BAR (25% on)
Week 10 at Giants: BAR CBS national game (25% on due to Denver)
Week 11 vs Buffalo: TV MNF ESPN
Week 12 at Denver: TV SNF NBC
Week 13 vs Philly: TV FOX national doubleheader game
Week 14 at Houston: BAR (25% chance on, SD)
Week 15 vs Tennessee: BAR (25% chance on, KC)
Week 16 at Jets: BAR (25% chance on, KC)
Week 17 at Miami: BAR (10% chance on, OAK)

I live in central NJ and because of that I actually get both NYC and Philly affiliates....1 or 2 games a weekend it pays off. This is one of them.

I'm considering Direct TV also. I can get it cheaper than my current Uverse. Sunday Ticket is the big seller for us football bigots, of course. First glance I don't see a thread about how good or bad Direct TV is. Anybody know if there has ever been one?

The service itself is great. Great picture, great on demand options, goes out less than cable. But, billing is a big problem. You have to watch your bill religiously for add on charges. And all that free stuff they give you? You have to go through the process of calling to cancel it all.

Personally, I wouldn't get a new TV service just for NFL games.  It may just be because I'm cheap, but these days you can find perfect HD feeds of any game or the red zone channel very easily, then use an HDMI cable to watch it on your big screen if desired.  Feel free to PM me if you want a great game stream resource.

I don't know about anyone else, but the bold part isn't true in my case.  I had DirectTV for 10 years and it went out every time we had even a moderate sized thunderstorm.  I've had FIOS for a couple of years now and it hasn't gone out once.

Former Comcast tv customer myself though I still have it for Internet. I lose the Internet at least 6 or 7 times a year. We barely have thunderstorms here so not a big deal.

Never been to Thom's when it wasn't wall-to-wall packed. Never been to the Riv but might try this weekend with a bud from Wisconsin who doesn't care much for sports and has literally never been in a room full of Pats fans. I'll update if I end up there for the game.

I found a colleague who is a big fan of a west coast team (few conflicts) and who I figured might be eligible for the streaming version of Sunday Ticket (lives in condo high rise) and suggested we split the package. He pounced on it as most people just aren't aware of how it's set up.

Note to people that we bought a full season of the cheapest package and were auto upgraded to the best one.

My next attempt was going to be to try and find someone with Sunday Ticket via The satellite. Usually they have a streaming license most of them don't use and which doesn't conflict with their TV.

I like the Connecticut Yankee in Potrero Hill in SF.
The CY and the Buccaneer (in Russian Hill) are your best bets. I don't know if R Bar (Tender Nob - ish) is Pats&Sox or only Sox.

If you are on the peninsula probably Old Pro in Palo Alto will at least have every game on.

So I'll probably be at Sonny's tomorrow morning. If any of you are there too and want to say "hello", I'll be the guy in the #12 jersey.

(But seriously, I'm not sure if I'll wear the jersey, but will try to remember to wear my green Salem Red Sox cap. Pretty sure no one else is going to be wearing one of those.)

I watched this year's opener at the Riviera. It's fine. I've watched many games there, but Thom's is the better spot now: more energy, more (and larger) screens, better drafts (and food, for that matter). If I hadn't been in the immediate area for work, I would have gone to Thom's.

If anyone is in Suffolk County (Long Island, not Boston), please DM me. I just moved and haven't yet found a spot.

Why don't we all just go in on a safe house during the season with sunday ticket? Should be enough of us to make it fairly cheap, and then we don't have to worry about tables and space and noise and scenes and whatnot.

My gf has this fashion show tomorrow. Depending on how the timing works out, I'll either be at Sonny's or seeking a shady stream online. Will look out for you.

Cool. If not tomorrow, then another out-of-market game, perhaps.

Aww man I have nothing but fond memories of my pre-21 drinking years. My hairline started receding significantly the summer before my Junior year of HS so I didn't get carded much.

I mean, I live 32 miles from where Brady grew up but that's never gotten me any extra Pats games. He did go to Michigan, and, there are those 49ers and Raiders...

Apropos of nothing, my live and die by the Ducks next door neighbor is moving back to Oregon.

I was living in San Mateo during Andrew Luck's rookie year and there were a ton of Indy games on, I remember (much to my chagrin). I think the college is the determining factor - I don't think Luck has the same kind of cache in Houston. Also, I think this effect is fairly short-lived - Rodgers is from the Bay Area and went to Cal and I don't remember the Packers games being on any more than I'd expect.

Rodgers even calls his college Butte Community instead of Cal in those player/college intros at the beginning of games, showing disagreement with Cal firing Jeff Tedford.
