We're onto Detroit.

Sunday night game, Patriots favored by a touchdown. I'm seeing Sony Michel's coming out party, a vintage Brady game, some Patriots swagger and some Matty P face on the opposing sidelines.

The real question is - does post-legalization Randy Moss wear #81 on Sunday?

It feels like we've been at this point before in the script of "Pats team struggling to round into early season form."

With three apparent cupcake games ahead on the schedule (@DET, MIA, IND), I fully expect...
- one comfortable win
- one near-loss that sends everyone into a mild panic
- one outright loss that sends everyone into a severe panic

... setting up a week 6 showdown with KC where we worry about the Pats getting embarrassed in their own building, only to see them come out and lay down the smack, setting up a 9-1 run to close the season with another 13-3 campaign.

No idea whether this will be the comfy win, the ugly win or the loss. Given that it's on the road and we have some injuries, I'll go with 'ugly win'.

I’m hoping the bolded was this past Sunday.

Assuming no Chung ... who fills in for him? Do they kick Devin McCourty down to SS and play Harmon deep? Is JMac ready to fill in (or Cyrus I guess)? More 3 LB sets?

What about putting JC Jackson in Chung's role temporarily just to cover TEs? He's bigger than JMac and a better cover guy at this point. Yeah he's a rookie, but he's showed out well in the preseason.

Patriots downgrade DL Trey Flowers, DB Patrick Chung and DB Eric Rowe to out for tomorrow’s game.

I could see that on passing downs, but there are a lot of run responsibilities in that role and I'm not sure they'll trust a rookie with that. Also worth noting: the Lions don't have a tight end who's a threat; Luke Willson, Michael Roberts, Hakeem Valles, and Levine Toilolo have combined for 4 catches for 40 yards on the season (each has one).

Options are limited with Chung out. Maybe they just play 3 linebackers and have Grigsby cover TEs if they're not worried about their guys. In obvious passing situations, a LB comes out for a defensive back.

I could see that. Of course, Detroit's running game is also terrible so they might not need the extra bulk up front. They don't really have a backup for Chung so if he's going to miss a game, a matchup against a team with a bad run game and lousy TEs is ideal.

And Rowe's absence complicates things, too - I had been thinking JMac was the most likely option at SS but maybe he plays CB now. Or maybe JMac plays SS and Jackson plays outside. Do guys like Crossen and Cyrus Jones get in the mix now? Ebner?

I’m not optimistic about this game. Bortles shredded this d with Chung. Stafford is better. Let’s hope the offense is great tonight.
If you watched the games today, it seems clear that one game does not carry over--just look at what the Bills did.

I fully expect at some point this game for there to be a bunch of "the dynasty is ovah!!" posts here.

I have no idea how we’re going to stop this passing attack, especially without Flowers.

Surprise me, defense.
