Its not how Belichick operates, but wouldnt a deal for Gordon suddenly make yesterday seem like a distant memory? I feel like, if you are really trying to extend this window, and get one more title, the quickest way to make the jaguars win seem completely irrelevant right now is to add an incredibly (albeit risky) weapon like Gordon. Frankly, the idea of him going TO Jacksonville (which is very possible) is a bit scary.

Offer a 5 that can become a 2019 4 (hell if he plays 2 seasons without fucking up it would be worth a 2020 3)...

A couple of years ago I wanted the Pats to deal for Gordon. He's an absolutely electric talent that would, if he's right, open EVERYTHING up for their offense. If you're Jacksonville, how do you defend an offense with Gronk, Edelman, Dorsett/Hogan, White, and a healthy and "right" Gordon? They can't put Ramsey on everyone.

I just don't think NE will go after him. And at this point, I'm not sure he'd be worth it. Though if the price was simply a 7th rounder, I absolutely give that a try.

When was the last time Gordon was a reliable player? Five years ago?

How does anyone even know what he is now? Five years can be a player's entire useful lifespan in the NFL.

It would be a giant risk, so the price shouldn't be at all high. I'd feel better if the Browns waived him and they signed him outright, though.

Pretty much. But he's obviously got a ton of talent, and he's still relatively young. If the price is just like a 7th rounder, it's worth a risk.

I really do wonder what the deal is with Dez Bryant. If he would come here for a small salary, doesn't it seem worth a try?

Whoa. That would be an enormous pickup for the Pats. If Belichick can get Gordon's head screwed on straight, that's a big-time upgrade.

But then he might go elsewhere.

Dude is talented, bring him in.

Although Gordon hasn't touched 2013, he was on pace for 1,000 yards based on output from his 5 games last year. His superstar window is probably gone, but can still be a very useful piece. And if the Patriots can somehow utilize Gordon more effectively than the Browns (tall order), a resurgence is possible. Along with Patterson and with Edelman returning, the offense all of a sudden becomes full of playmakers at the receiver position.

Marking the fuck out.

Best WR to be in a Patriots uniform since Randy Moss?
Imagine:
Josh Gordon, Dez Bryant on the outside.
Julian Edelman in the slot.
Rob Gronkowski at TE.
James White at RB.

Holy shit.

I mean, what's the risk? The price can't be that high. If he's not right mentally, or can't figure out the playbook, then they'll just let him go. Isn't this a classic low risk, high reward scenario?

I hate to say it, but I think he'll last two weeks, tops. This is not a Corey Dillon/Randy Moss/LGBT who was just kind of irascible on his former team and then straightened out in order to win -- this guy has serious addiction issues that appear to remain uncontrolled.

One post for someone to fart in the elevator, better than I was expecting.

All reports are that he's still sober.

Considering the likely cost of the trade plus his controllable salary for two years, BB & Co. must feel the potential upside is worth the risk. He will no doubt be on a short leash and this could be his last chance in the league. I say swing for the fences and go for it.

Dez ain't coming but you'd still have Hogan, Dorsett, and potentially Coleman on the outside along with Edelman, Gronk, and White/Michel at RB. The odds of it all coming together are slim.....but if it does...

I’ll take the over on two weeks, but I’m right there on the general point. Hope I’m wrong.

As Troy Brown would say...BINGO!

Edit: However, I am aware of previous cases such as Ochocinco, where the player thrives in a simple system and it just doesn't translate to the Pats. It will be fascinating to see if this is that case, or emulates a Randy Moss-type increase in production, or falls somewhere in between.

Didn't think they'd actually do this but he is sorely needed. Especially since they shipped out Cooks which now looks like an unforced error.

I'll take the under on the Randy Moss comp.

The Patriots didn't have $8 million to pay Cooks. It would have been nice to keep him but they couldn't. He was a luxury they couldn't afford. I'm not sure why this point seems to get lost so often.

If they 1) didn't want to sign him for that contract, 2) believed in Dorsett and, 3) they got a first out of it I don't have a problem with it. It's a shame Wynn got hurt.

No way am I comparing Gordon to Randy Moss. Just saying the potential is there for at least a temporary uptick in production to his own previous levels from moving to a new situation like Moss, who floundered with a terrible Raiders team for a few years before coming here.

Gordon does have documented addiction issues which can end his career in an instant, while Moss just came here with "malcontent" baggage (understandable from how things went in the middle of his prime with Oakland).

Gordon hasn't been a real asset in years and seems like he needs a lot of help off the field. I get that it's at almost no risk for the Pats to kick the tires on this guy, but I can't see it working out.
