The big 1982 world cup star, who finished Brazil with 3 goals passed away today; he was 64.
That pomeriggio on the 5 luglio in Barcelona's Sarria, was an unforgettable day, and then he did the same with Poland (2 goals in the semis) and the first goal against Germany in the final.
RIP Paolo

No disrespect to the departed (RIP Sr Rossi), but I can't think of Rossi without thinking of Schillaci. Didn't they have remarkably similar WC flashes (diff final result, but golden boot for both, iirc).

That's not a fair comparison to Rossi - like, at all. Schillaci had one unbelievable World Cup, and virtually nothing else; Rossi was regarded as one of the best Italian strikers of his generation. Just a few raw numbers:

Rossi: 82 goals in 215 Serie A matches; 20 goals in 48 international matches
Schillaci: 37 goals in 120 Serie A matches; 7 goals in 16 international matches

I mean, Rossi scored three times as many goals in his second-best World Cup than Schillaci had in the rest of his international career (excluding Italia '90). Rossi led Serie A in 1977-78 with 24 goals, and three other times he scored 13 goals or more in a Serie A season; in Schillaci's five Serie A seasons, he scored 15, 5, 6, 6 and 5 goals before then moving to Japan.
