Of course, mlb.com just ran a story saying the club and Papi are discussing a role "within the organisation". Here is the link...

And here is the most intriguing passage:

"We've been talking, but right now nothing," Ortiz said of the negotiations. "We're going back and forth. At some point it's going to happen. That organization is what I am. We've been talking."

When asked whether his potential role would be in the front office or the dugout, Ortiz did not reveal details.

"I'll let you know later," he said.

Intriguing?

It was a straight answer that's been given an out of context insinuation by a reporter framing it in the way wanted to.

Also being in the dugout could just mean being a coach.

Sure. As I said above, it sounded a lot like he was retiring for good last year. I think he would be a great addition to the clubhouse in a coaching capacity, particularly from a leadership perspective.

At this point, a left handed fielding 42 year old David Ortiz might make a better third baseman than Pablo.

He's requesting a front office job with the title Big Papi. In time he could move up to Executive Vice Papi.

Edit: Just think of the business cards, they would be epic.
