If was totally rash of rodrigo to stick his leg out like that. It was a silly foul.

If you want to kvetch about a penalty, try the first one. The replay showed if came off the thigh before hitting the arm. VAR should have called it back.

Wait, I just got to watch. Is this serious? Dragged a leg? He got clattered, how could anybody dispute that?
he was hardly clobbered. Rodrigo stuck a leg out like an idiot and Fabinho took him up on his offer of a free penalty. It was a penalty all day but Fabinho just tumbled over the leg knowing it shouldn’t be there

It was a clear pen.
But soft, as he saw the leg and threw himself down over it, rather than actually run through and be felled by it.

Continuing to play Mr Blackwell, these maroon Leicester away kits are quite natty.

Whatever the hell West Brom is wearing is an atrocity.

Leicester are struggling against a newly promoted side. I feel like they're going to slide down to mid-table this season.

West Brom have the best mascot in sports, and it’s not really close. For those of you that have seen his majesty, I present... BOILER MAN!

Here is Mr. Testicles, who made an on-pitch appearance at Goodison to raiser awareness of male cancers. It was several years ago but he's still remembered fondly and often invoked, often as a lineup option when Everton struggle.

Everton's kits are *chef's kiss* beautiful in their simplicity. Hummel's chevrons are fantastic and they nailed the royal blue.

The Seahawks-green accent in Spurs' collar is terrible.

There were some things said at Chez OCST that were not fit for children
I think you are going to need to learn to say them in Italian. Carlo was a great get this Everton team look strong Allan is everywhere.

I don’t believe in Calvert Lewin so I think you’re short up too but if Carlo can convince a good striker to come you’d bevery uncomfortable to play

Not much evidence of a plan from Spurs so far. Some hero-ball from Son who looks very dangerous every time he gets near the ball, but the rest of the side isn't doing much. Haven't heard the announcers call Doherty's name once.

Nice 1-2 with Kane and Doherty; that kind of run is what Doherty brings to this team. Real good save from Pickford to deny him.

Everton have been better and had the best chance but Spurs have probably has the next best 2-3 chances on the counter. Mourinho style just doesn’t play anymore imo but the quality is there for them to be clinical in few chances and take plenty of points. Just feels pointlessly negative

Lots of quality possession for Everton in the Spurs third but not enough in terms of threats on goal. Have to capitalize because Son is so deadly on the counter. If the game continues like this they'll score one of those.

Everton started brightly but haven't really created anything besides the Richarlison chance (which was more of a gift than anything). Spurs have contained them well, Calvert-Lewin has been completely anonymous.

Spurs have a clear plan to hit quickly on the break, then if they can't pass the ball around until they can hit a switch to Son 1v1 vs. Coleman. They lack some incisive thrust through the center, Dele has failed to make much impact in possession. Part of this is the tactical setup, both Winks and PEH are playing very deep while Dele is playing very advanced, almost as a second striker, so there's no real link play between them. Lucas is playing more centrally also with Doherty overlapping, and he's surprised me with a few nice touches/passes in tight spaces, which I don't normally think of as his strength.

This seems like a typical Jose match where his team limits the other side defensively and creates a small handful of good chances, hoping to put away 1-2 of them and win the game 2-0. So far they haven't scored but the team is executing the game plan reasonably well, with the obvious exception of Davies' brainfart backpass to nobody.

Also I hate Peacock and felt dirty paying for it. The stream quality is not nearly good enough for a pay service.

Sissoko on for Dele? --scratches head--

It looks like Sissoko is playing in an advanced wide right role and Lucas has gone inside. I don't understand this at all.

Well that is why you swing the ball in from that position and not senselessly pass it backwards.

Impressed with Everton. The transformation of their midfield really makes them a different team. I don't think I've ever seen an Everton side with this much quality on the ball and ability to dictate a match in the middle of the pitch.

Some individual fluffed moments but every Everton player 1 - 11 had a solid game.

Jose lost that I think. Son was dangerous in the first half but disappeared in the second. Not sure what they were up to.

Did Jose make a bet with Simeone over the break that he could design an even more negative and ugly brand of football?

First impressions for the new look Chelsea

- Werner is really, reallly , I’m mean really fast ..
- Havertz looks kind of lost
- same old crappy defence

This may take awhile for everyone to settle. Brighton have looked great so far and deserve to be ahead , and not behind .

One really bad mistake not withstanding.

1-0 Chelsea at half time despite Brighton looking the better side after a terrible giveaway leads to a penalty.

Timo Werner is very fast and always looking to run behind the defense, pretty much as advertised.

Kai Havertz has done very very little and seems to be still getting his feet under him in the Premier League. He is playing quite wide on the right. His defensive contribution has also been pretty lackadaisical so far, something he might need to fix especially if he is going to play wide.

Ruben Loftus Cheek is not that good at football and for some reason Lampard is playing him effectively in a two striker system with Werner. He had a fairly simple pass to make that could have sent Werner in after Werner had sprinted about 70 yards on a counter and just didn't have the quality.

Ben White looks really good for Brighton but the even more impressive player so far has been ex-Chelsea man Tariq Lamptey, playing wing back on White's side. White/Lamptey have more than held their own against Werner and Mount in that area of the pitch.

Just catching up on the match - Lallana couldn't make it to half without subbing off injured? Poor bastard.

Brighton deserve to be level at least.

fake edit: not anymore. Reece James almost tore a hole in the back of the net from distance.

So .. from a Chelsea point of view .. they got the three points in a game they played really poorly. One gift, one wonder goal/fluke and a deflection .. not something to be crowing about.

if they play like this against Liverpool they’re going to get smoked.

Chelsea getting 3 points with a crap performance is good.

Lamptey is so darn good.
