Help!

We lost power for about an hour last night - no big deal.

However, none of the lights on my ONT or BBU are lit, and I have no internet today.

(I have FIOS internet).

I have tested the outlet where it is plugged in, no issue there.

Also tried disconnecting the backup battery, no luck there. I only have internet through FIOS, my understanding is the batter is for phone line only, so I don't think that matters one way or the other.

I called Verizon, they ran some tests and detected an issue, but weren't able to fix. So, they're sending a tech, but the earliest possible slot was tomorrow afternoon.

I WFH so this has been a PITA today. Been connected through mobile hotspot but my signal is shitty.

Any troubleshooting ideas to see if I can get thing thing back up and running?

Verizon did tell me that my ONT is an out of date model and they'll be replacing it tomorrow regardless of whatever the issue was, at no cost.

Verizon uses a lot of different models of ONT: list
If you want to go down this rabbit hole you'll have to figure out which one it is, then google that model number and start digging. I've got no generic advice. It's quite likely that the ONT is just dead and you'll be wasting time trying to fix it.

You are correct that the purpose of the battery is to enable landline when the power is out.

I'd think about putting a surge protector on the outlet your ONT is plugged into, at a minimum for the sake of the new one. If there's a little shelf there, just put a power strip with a surge protector and plug everything into it (the router, the ONT, whatnot). Or zip tie everything to a piece of pegboard. If there's no space like that, get one of those 6-plug surge protector blocks that plugs into the outlet (like this - I put one of these behind my gf's TV and it works fine).

Long shot, but the power supply to my ONT has a reset button that when pressed cuts the power to the ONT. Maybe the switch is somehow stuck?

On mine the power supply is inside the main box and there is a bright blue button labeled reset on the face of it.

Found this online.

Mine looks like this. Nothing happens when I push the blue buttons. None of the buttons on the left box are lit up. The button on the right box is however lit up.

Seems like there is power getting to the power supply, but the ONT isn't powering up. Either there is a connection issue or the ONT is fried. I'd lean toward the latter since this started with a loss of power.

Thanks, that's what I figured.

21-23 hours until the tech arrives with the new ONT :)

No Celts for me tonight :(
