Why? Starting next year Stanton's contract increases to $25M+ a year through 2027. Eventually Judge will get paid too, but that time hasn't come yet.

We probably talked about it a few years back in this thread, but evidently he had trouble with umps punching him out on balls outside the strike zone quite a bit in the minors, especially in AAA. When he was locked in the first half of this year, his pitch recognition was remarkable and even now that he has been deeply slumping, he is still drawing plenty of walks, especially with two outs/no one on, so maybe that's what BigMike is thinking.
That's something, seems a bit overstated a phenomena but he did do it (420+ OBP) for a full half season so that's not nothing.

I mean his power with something in the ~340-360 range is still a superstar. This is why I like him though, he's relatively unprecedented so it's been fun to see him adjust and try to figure out what he'll end up being.

This seems crazy from a Yankee perspective especially with Harper hitting FA in another year. Even Judge plus Ellsbury for Stanton I don't think makes sense for NY.

I would have gladly signed on for 40 HRs and 100 RBI for Judge back in April. The intrigue is in seeing how he responds to his first pennant race. And nobody can answer that question yet.

Gotta love Yankee fans. Judge > Stanton and Harper's been a lock for pinstripes since he was drafted.

I'm just giving you a hard time, but it comes across like many Yankee fans I know that believe it. Severino is also going to be better than Pedro.

Nah, for me it doesn't have anything to do with thinking Judge is better than Stanton. That contract scares the crap out of me. Giving up a cheap young talent just for the opportunity to take it on? No way.

If the Yankees want to spend that way, and they have before, better to take their chances on the FA market. Keeping cheap talent makes it easier to afford those deals anyway.

Stanton is 27 and has 10/295M left on his deal, plus an opt-out in 2020 if he wants. Judge is a rookie who is cost-controlled for the next six seasons, plus he is 2 1/2 years younger and a better defender. It's not even a hundred percent clear that Stanton is better than Judge in a vacuum (their respective fWARs as of now are 6.0 for Judge and 4.4 for Stanton), but the contracts make it a ludicrous question (no disrespect to E5).

Stanton also has been pretty bad at managing to stay on the field, he has averaged 115 games played per season from 2012-2016.

Come on, no way. That Stanton contract is insane. I don't think anyone would make that trade.

Would you trade Mookie Betts in a deal for Stanton?
Better yet, Judge for Betts? Judge for Benintendi?

You know you couldn't resist watching Benny Baseball swing for the porch in pinstripes. Get it done, Cashman!

Find me a Yankees fan who doesn't think Judge has a lot to work on right now. He's had a monster season and real bad past few months. I'm not really talking to anyone who thinks he is better than Stanton, although I'm not doubting there's a couple fans out there who do.

We've all got fringey idiots in our ranks, not sure what "my Yankee fan friends are annoying" is supposed to prove.

Baseball's supposed to be fun anyway, god forbid someone hope Severino ends up better than Pedro.

Tonight's HR is ridiculous, in the upper deck in left-center at Citi Field.

The video is on the front page of ESPN right now or is in the Gameday on MLB.com. Can't pull it right now.

Judge getting the press for his moonshots (for good reason) but Sanchez keeping pace under the radar in comparison. Amazingly similar stats.

(And a vomit inducing comparison...)

I somehow missed the year where Jeter hit 40+ HR, or lead the league in walks

Other than Celebrity status, he is just picking 2 random people who have nothing in common. Might as well compare Mookie Betts to David Ortiz

Or struck out in 33 straight games....

Can Judge go to his left?

He hasn't been hitting much but he keeps getting his walks, three more today puts him at 102, 5 short of Ted Williams' rookie record:

Katie Sharp‏ @ktsharp 2m2 minutes ago

Yankees with 35+ HR and 100+ BB in age-25 season or younger:

Aaron Judge
Mickey Mantle (1955, '56)
Lou Gehrig (1927)
Babe Ruth (1920)

Two more walks tonight and Judge is at 109 now, so that's the alltime rookie record, on pace for 123, and the most in the AL.

He also still leads the AL in HRs (41), Rs (108), OPS among qualifiers (.990 but Trout is way ahead at 1.108), and Ks (190). Pretty crazy rookie year, even with the long slump.

Pretty impressive rookie season for Judge. It's scary that the Yankees have two very good young hitters in Judge and Sanchez.

160 wRC+, 45 HR and 101 RBI on the season.

113 wRC+, 15 HR and 35 RBI since the All Star break.

142 wRC+, 10 HR and 23 RBI since the week of 8/13/17 (second full week of August).

So you could argue that he had a month long slump where he was 27% worse than league average, which isn't surprising for such a big slugger with some swing and miss in his game.

I think he's probably a pretty good bet to be anywhere from a 125-150 wRC+ in any given year going forward, and he'll hit a metric shit-ton of home runs. He might be a little above or below that range here and there, of course, but I think his true talent level will be in there somewhere.

People keep forgetting about Didi. I won't lump Hicks into this conversation because I want to see another healthy season out of him but Didi is quickly climbing the charts for a lot of fans. He's an incredible asset on and off the field.

One of the podcasts I listen to talked about replacing the core 4, and how the Yankees have done about as good a job as could be expected.

Posada to Sanchez.
Pettitte to Severino.
Jeter to Didi.
Mo to Robertson to Chapman to Betances.

Add Judge and Frazier and you've got a long term core I'd stack up against anyone. With Gray, Tanaka, Green, Kahnle, Pineda, etc... they should be a serious threat for the division and in the playoffs the next two years or so.

Cashman done good.

It's exciting as a fan. Both the Sox & the Yankees have a handful of youngens that will be around for quite awhile. I'm really excited for next year when we get to see Andujar, Torres, and more development for Florial.

This is from a few days ago, but pretty amazing:

Zachary Abate‏ @zabate

1998 Posada (26) + Jeter (24) + Bernie (29) + Pettitte (26) = 18 WAR
2017 Sanchez (24) + Didi (27) + Judge (25) + Severino (23) = 18.8 WAR

Interesting tweet.

Posada: 3.1
Jeter: 6.2
Bernie: 4.9
Pettitte: 3.2

Sanchez: 4.2
Didi: 3.9
Judge: 6.7
Severino: 5.6

Of course, we're comparing pre and post UZR/DRS WAR, so I'm not sure how much that actually tells us. Regardless, the Yankees are in as good position for the future as they have been since that dynasty core first emerged. So the point is taken despite the nitpicking.

2 more HRs today, he is at 48 and one behind McGwire's alltime rookie record.

James Smyth‏ @JamesSmyth621

Aaron Judge AL Ranks

48 HR (1st)
121 Runs (1st)
119 BB (1st)
.417 OBP (1st)
.611 SLG (1st)

1st to hit all these marks since 2001 Barry Bonds

Why do people think Sale or Kluber will get MVP votes?
I really don't think they will but who knows with the voters. It should be Altuve 1st, Judge 2nd and then the field. Jose Ramirez I guess. It's a pretty weak field outside of Altuve and Judge.

I think Jose Ramirez finishes 2nd to Altuve.

As hot as Judge has been in SEP, Ramirez has been even better. OPS over 1.400.

Jose has a shot of hitting over .300 with 50 doubles and 30HRs

I actually would agree with JR over JA. I don’t see what has been so spectacular about Altuve’s season.
besides leading the league in hits, batting average, WAR and OPS+? 2nd in SB, 3rd in OBP, 3rd in slugging %. Really?

Yes, amazing. I didn't know he was leading in WAR AND hits. I still bet there are a handful of writers who punish him for having 80rbi.
If they do, Aaron Judge will be the winner. He's got some pretty lofty counting figures and the rate stats to go with it. Altuve is at 8.2 WAR, 7.4 oWAR. Judge is at 7.1 WAR total. Somehow Simmons is 3rd at 6.6 (4.1 dWAR, guy has some ridiculous defensive numbers over his career), Ramirez 4th at 6.4 and Mookie Betts 5th with 6.2, on the merits of a 2.5 dWAR. Mike Trout is 6th at 6.0 despite playing 108 games.
