I'm also not a big fan of DeBoer. Seems like the epitome of "average." However, these past two seasons are all on Lou. You didn't need to be a brain surgeon to look at this team in the pre-season and wonder where the hell the scoring was going to come from and predict another non-playoff year. DeBoer did all he could do by having the defensemen try to play a bigger role in the offense but this team has the least offensively talented set of forwards in the league. He had to play the "we have two #1 goalies" card when everyone could clearly see that Schneider, at this point, is the better goalie and that was obvious in the pre-season. The Devils have to force Lou and his entire scouting staff (who have been with him for decades now) to retire and start over. They need fresh blood at the top and a whole new approach to player evaluation and development. The entire league has passed them by.
I want no part of Detroit in the first round. I'd rather play Columbus and take my chances with Bobrovsky.
I can't imagine why the Pens would play any of their key guys in that game. I'm not sure what Malkin's timetable is at this point, but besides him I can't see them risking somebody getting hurt or suspended in the event the game turns silly.
