Maybe someone else can corroborate this, but didn't Leyritz do an interview from the stands during the 2003 or 2004 ALCS while wearing one of those lame Yankee bomber jackets and basically shit all over the Sox? I think that's gotta be part of my hate for him.Thirded - I had an irrational dislike for him as well. Never understood it really, but it was more his persona than his performance.
This guy seriously is the winner of this contest. Hard to believe he was the NL MVP in 1989, and already effectively done as a major leaguer by 1995 (at age 33). And the Sox traded him away at the trade deadline 1996 for 2B Roberto Mejia who went straight to AAA and was then released in February 1997, and a pitcher named Brad Tweedlie who never made it past AA.Kevin Mitchell apparently cut the head off a cat according to Dwight Gooden in the article below.

And according to his wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Mitchell_(baseball) he also had ties to a gang, was involved in an alleged rape, assaulted his dad, and punched a minor league owner in the face and was suspended 9 games. He also was DL'd for straining a muscle vomiting.
Bedard was a perfectly cromulent pitcher, but he caught a lot of flack because of the context of his performance. He was the big (and only) in-season acquisition for a seemingly good team. Despite that, he never pitched into the 7th inning and the team only went 4-4 in his starts. And I think he got hurt at some point, if I remember correctly. Then they collapsed and missed the playoffs.Eric Bedard.
Now that I look at his stats, he did have an ERA+ of over 100, but 1-2 with 8 starts, and never seemed like he cared.....
The good news about the Bedard trade is that none of the players sent out really amounted to very much:Bedard was a perfectly cromulent pitcher, but he caught a lot of flack because of the context of his performance. He did get the W in one of the "must win" games down the stretch, so there's that.
Technically the first and third one of these already don't qualify. Hopefully you won't feel like this about either the second or third by the end of the seasonDrew pomeranz

I was coming to post this. He played 137 games over the course of two different years. He counts.Dante Bichette would join Wells and AJP on the crappy Mt. Rushmore but alas he played just over one season.
That's a good one, but there are better reasons to think he's one of the most despicable ex-Red Sox players ever.Maybe someone else can corroborate this, but didn't Leyritz do an interview from the stands during the 2003 or 2004 ALCS while wearing one of those lame Yankee bomber jackets and basically shit all over the Sox? He was extraordinarily good at hitting into them, though. Skydome security moved me away from the Sox dugout after I let loose one too many "double play Jose" chants - but at least I got to talk a bit to Ricky Henderson before they moved me along.Jose Awfulman a shit-in-a-uniform suck bag rat...A lousy SS turned 2nd basemn Baseman who was afraid to turn the double play... He later lost a lawsuit wherein he had charged the mound in an independent league game,The catcher was hit with a bat and Offrman was nailed for nearly a million dollars.
Scum...
But...but...but...he replaced Mo Vaughn's OBP (well, at least for the one year with the Red Sox that he was actually good). (I still can't believe they couldn't have splurged by spending another million or so to get Robby Alomar instead).Jose Awfulman a shit-in-a-uniform suck bag rat...A lousy SS turned 2nd basemn Baseman who was afraid to turn the double play...
