He was Zimmer's buddy, so Zim got the front office to dump Bernie Carbo to clear the way for Bailey to get more playing time. Then when injuries hit in the outfield, the Sox had to use Garry Hancock for 86 plate appearances of 33 OPS-Plus,

(Nothing personal against the late Garry Hancock).

Both were here a lot longer than one season.

Buckner had 200 hits for the Sox in 1985, and contributed with a 0.733 OPS in 1986. Stanley was quite a good, versatile pitcher for the Sox for several years in the late 70's and early 80's. He was mostly washed up by 1986.

This was touched on in the other thread but he actually kicked ass while he was here. The Sox won the division by only two games that year, and there was no wild card so who knows what happens without him? It's not his fault Lou Gorman hung onto Scott Cooper and traded Bagwell.

Bobby V and Gagne. V's tenure was just a complete train wreck in every way. The moment the ownership group and FO lost their MOJO, which I'm not sure they've ever fully recovered, even factoring in 2013. As for Gagne, I remember being so fired about the prospect of him and Pap locking down leads after the 7th. And then he just completely, unconditionally, sucked. Of course it all worked out ultimately in 2007, but Jesus, what an epic fail his time here was.

Dustin Hermanson was pretty useless in 2002. I think he came in as a rotation piece but got injured early. I don't even know why I remember that.
