ODU gives up 3 in first inning to 16-32 Jacksonville.

ODU gets 2 back after a walk and a LONG HR by ODU's #2 hitter.

EDIT: And now ODU's #1 starter has to depart the game after taking a comebacker off the knee.

Is this a WCWS-friendly thread? Because the mighty Dukes of James Madison University just shocked #1 Oklahoma in extra innings.

JMU stuns No. 1 Oklahoma, a softball powerhouse, in dramatic College World Series win
They just beat Oklahoma St. and their pitcher made a ridiculous play---1 out, 7th (and final) inning, OSU had runners on 2nd and 3rd, and called a squeeze. She fielded the bunt and dove to tag the runner before she got to the plate. Gotta be a SportsCenter Top 10 play. Amazing.

EDIT: Found it. Watch this.

The things Notre Dame is doing to their regional might be illegal in some states. They're averaging something like 15 runs a game, and it's a team whose calling card during the regular season was their strong starting pitching and defense.

At this moment, 0.402 team batting average, 15 HR, 48 R in three games.

Wow, I don't think the 4 balls on that run scoring walk missed by more than a combined 6 inches. Squeezed tight. Honestly I think she was out on the 0-2 pitch

Of course, UVA throws out some dude with an ERA over 7 to start against ODU and he K's first 6 hitters and 7 through first 3 innings.

Fairfield’s starter vs Texas hadn’t pitched this season and hasn’t started a game in 740 days.

Edit: Thriugh 3, Texas has 10 runs in 5 hits. Fairfield has run out of pitching and they can’t throw strikes, a run rule would help here.

UVA struck out 24 (yes, 24) ODU hitters last night. It was insane.

Texas outscored everyone in its regional 33-5 on the way to the 3 game sweep. Arkansas lost yesterday so has a winner-take-all game this afternoon.

Today we have a good set of games to determine regional winners. Weather will play havok with these, per usual.

12 p.m. ET | No. 7 seed Mississippi State vs. Campbell
12:06 p.m. ET | South Florida vs. South Alabama (previously suspended in 5th inning)
1 p.m. ET | No. 12 seed Ole Miss vs. Southern Miss
4 p.m. ET | Dallas Baptist vs. Oregon State
7 p.m. ET | No. 1 seed Arkansas vs. Nebraska
7 p.m. ET | No. 11 seed Old Dominion vs. Virginia
10 p.m. ET | No. 9 seed Stanford vs. UC Irvine
10 p.m. ET | No. 14 seed Oregon vs. LSU

These teams have already advanced to the Supers:

Austin Regional
(2) Texas advances, will host winner of USA-USF

Knoxville Regional
(3) Tennessee advances, will host winner of Oregon-LSU

Nashville Regional
(4) Vanderbilt advances, will host ECU

Tucson Regional
(5) Arizona advance, will host winner of Ole Miss-Southern Miss

Lubbock Regional
(8) Texas Tech advances, will host winner of Stanford-UCI

South Bend Regional
(10) Notre Dame advances, will host winner of Mississippi St-Campbell

Greenville Regional
(13) ECU advances, will face (4) Vanderbilt

Ruston Regional
Unseeded NC State advances, will face winner of Arkansas-Nebraska

Yeah nobody was getting through Texas. Fairfield did well. They should be proud.

#1 top play in fact. Alas, while David pulled it off, the smart money is always on Goliath. OU advances to the final, but what a run by the Dukes. Check out the standing ovation Odicci Alexander got as she was pulled in the 5th:

Looks like they are playing. It's 1-0 ODU in the 6th.
The NCAA rule is, if they can't finish or whatever, that the most wins advances. But that benefits teams coming out of loser's bracket. Dumb rule.

1-1 in the 7th now, UVA with 1st and 3rd one out.

Also, home team decided by coin flip? What? Why not higher seed?

Any championship or team moving on that doesn't get decided on the field is going to have issues. In our conference, an incomplete championship was awarded to NJIT because they were furthest along in the winner's bracket. If Stony Brook won the game that got delayed and the if necessary game got rained out they would have won the auto bid based on both teams having 1 loss but SB being the higher seed.

Yes, in the regional format there are coin tosses involved when both teams having the same number of times being the home team in the regional. I've been involved in scenarios where we've played the regional host on their own field, but we're the home team and we took over their dugout.

ODU takes lead in top of 8th after an error by the VA second baseman. VA ties it up in the bottom of the 8th after back to back wild pitches by the ODU closer. He hit the backstop on the fly with the second one.

VA closer holds the game at 3-3 with a scoreless top of the 9th. He is doing his best Al “Mad Hungarian“ Hrabosky routine by punching himself in the head and talking and yelling at himself.

UVA with a walk-off.

ODU, who led the nation with 105 HRs, was held to 21 hits over 4 games in the regional. What a horrible time to have the bats go silent.

LSU was all-in on hiring Florida's coach but apparently the board rejected it due to off-the-field trouble so they've reopened their search.

It literally was David vs. Goliath- every team I saw JMU play towered over them. JMU looked like a high school team, including a third baseman that was, incredibly, 4'11".

Indeed. Glad to see the fans came out to acknowledge what they accomplished upon their return home:

I've been following the WCWS closely with Lil O, who's 11 and plays softball. It's been fantastic.

Florida St. beat juggernaut OU last night 8-4. Game 2 of the best of 3 is tonight.

I have been watching a lot of these games. They are great.

I will say, though, I'm pulling pretty hard for Florida State because OU celebrates every little thing (e.g. like a leadoff double in the first) like it's Joe Carter hitting a home run to win the world series. It's weird. If everything is amazing and wonderful and awe inspiring, nothing is.

Have you watched women's volleyball? After every point, the players have a group lovefest.

OU is blessed to play the WCWS in Oklahoma City, so it's always the home team at these games. Game 3 is today at 2:00 pm, which is annoying for those who can't watch day softball.

The outfielders just make a catch and then are fist pumping like Tiger Woods holing chips on the 16th hole at the Masters.

Get off my lawn, I guess. But the celebrations are definitely extra.

I'm sure this would've been my reaction two years ago, but given the joy deficiency of the last fifteen months, I kinda liked it.

Yeah, these players couldn't compete last year because the WCWS was canceled. Some of them stuck around a year so that they'd have a chance to play for the title. Let 'em celebrate!

And the Sooners win Game 3 of the WCWS. Nice to see Giselle Juarez pitch so well. She lost two games in the finals of the WCWS in 2019, and this year, she won two. Best she's pitched since battling injuries in 2020.

And Texas hits the walkoff in the bottom of the 9th after an error and a ball over the the center fielder’s head. Perez is killing USF for not playing the outfield deeper and preventing doubles.

Terrible defense there. Texas likely wins in the extra inning at bat buy you have to play no doubles.
