Am I missing something regarding Myles Turner? Why wouldn't he be an option to replace Love?
I’m sure a bunch of players were contacted and declined. They all have to recognize the high percentage of this being a shit show.

He's a good choice if healthy. FIBA teams actually throw the ball in the paint to big guys who actually try to score. Nick Nurse found out the big guys from Greece and Czech Republic did not bow down to the superior three point shooting of NBA players 40lbs lighter than they were and simply kicked their asses in the low block.
True, but Javale McGee ain’t the solution to that problem. Whither TT?

Javale was never particularly good, & by now is particularly bad. Of the Nuggets' 10 playoff games this season, he got into 4 of them for a total of 34 minutes & had 8 points & 8 rebounds on 3 for 10 shooting.

Not sure what's going on, but Tatum has yet to have even a solid game for Team USA.

I don’t know if Ben Simmons has dual citizenship yet, but USA basketball could have used his late game bucket getting wizardry in this embarrassing loss to France

US was outscored 16-2 to end the game, with their two points coming on meaningless FTs in a three possession game with nine seconds left.

Play of the game: Fournier makes a three at the expiration of the shot clock, after Yabu dives in front of Team USA bench and taps the ball to Evan. Tatum was sitting to the left of the game’s key, and got a good look at it.

France’s strategy to let Team USA take wide open threes in the last four minutes of the game was a solid one.

They've been the more dominant team since 2000, maybe even 1996.
We hear this in Canada too, but lets be honest the competition in almost all women's sports is easier than the men. Half the world either barely supports their women athletes or doesn't allow them to compete. It is certainly a point of pride to western nations that our women compete and win medals, but it is easier than the men winning a medal, for a lot of reasons.

I’m sure I would quibble about a player or two if I followed the WNBA more closely, but the US women’s team roster looks a lot like a list of the 12 best players on the planet who are currently healthy. By contrast, there are only 3 guys on the men’s roster who are even arguably top 12 (Durant, Lillard, Booker), That’s not a knock on the men — their professional season is much longer, and it’s not reasonable to expect aging stars like LeBron to play the Olympics the way Sue Bird still does. But that’s why the US women are dominant in a way that men aren’t; it’s not like the gold medal in men’s basketball is going to go to a country that systematically subjugates women.

No but they qualify, and have domestic pro leagues and it is harder to qualify against those countries. Right now in Canada we are getting "why do are men suck?" articles.

The Olympics is a way a bigger deal than the WNBA in terms of attention.

It is much worse in soccer. The women's world cup has trouble putting full field of competent teams on the field.

US draws Spain in the quarterfinal round. That’s the top two teams in FIBA’s world rankings. It feels weird to watch USA Basketball in the Olympics and worry about who they get matched up against.

Usa will crush them. Not only did the players hear the doubters, so did Pop.
The more I cap this game the more I love the USA minus the 12. Gasol’s age is showing and Rubio has been the Spaniards ignition......of course he’s never driven the car with Holiday hanging on the windshield while swapping him with a newspaper through the drivers side window.

Could be a great Live or 2H spot too if USA comes out as they did in the Czech game.

Sorry to gamethread but 4 on 2 leading to a missed 3 will always piss me off

Also Booker can't beat these guys when they handcheck. He maybe can't stay in the league in the 90s

MVP may be the fiba ball

Also Pop, maybe when you can't score keep Tatum in there

“Lloyd, how do you feel your old team in Atlanta responded to your departure this past season?”
