Sounds like they're still on the market for a big using the minimum exception. I wouldn't mind Richaun Holmes. He's fairly athletic, good motor and competes defensively. He'd be an okay compliment to what they have.
Holmes went to Kings on the same deal as Kanter. Koufos, O'Quinn, Faried and old friend Tyler Zeller remain unsigned after.... 1.5 days of free agency. This year is crazy.

Boogie and Kanter is like the complete opposite of what the Cs had up front these past two years. Cs would face death by a thousand switches.

It’s nothing like a modern business because modern business don’t have artificial salary caps and maximum contracts. Baseball, with no such (well, at least fewer) restrictions, is actually more like a modern business in that sense.
Believe the actual answer is euro soccer, with no real salary limits and teams losing can trigger relegation.

Good Lord. Please make this end.
Make what end? Isiah should try to hang around and make as much money as he can. Why is that a bad thing? Poor guy lost out on tens of millions of dollars. He might not have been a max contract guy before the injury, but he was definitely in the range of 12-18 million a year. Now it's a fraction of that. What can he do but try to come back?

If nothing else, making an extra million is quite material when your net worth is 10-15M, as IT’s likely is.

Boogie would be a great add. The team would retain the spacing it had with Horford. He dragged those Kings teams to 30-35 wins for years just like AD dragged the Pelicans to about the same. Another year removed from the Achilles injury will be good, too. I'm kind of astonished he didn't get a better offer: the personality stuff must be really, really bad, or teams must just be extra cautious about his injuries. He played like shit during the playoffs, but I wonder how much of that could be attributed to his being rushed back.

It would also allow Kanter to munch on second-unit bigs. I see all the hate on him defensively and I recognize it, and it's deserved, but as bad as his DRPM numbers are, the guy has put up a positive ORTG/DRTG every year since he left Utah. That doesn't make him a good defender, or even a passable one, it just means teams have found a way to play him so that he's a positive addition on the floor.

If he was as bad as Okafor, for example, he wouldn't have kept getting minutes -- starter's minutes -- on playoff teams.

He's not as bad as Okafor is by any means, no. He's also a more competent offensive player than Okafor. That said, oRTG/dRTG aren't very good metrics and are mostly capturing team performance. The plus/minus data mostly shows that he's only had one stint with a team where where the team hasn't played better with him on the bench, even in his "useful" stint with the Blazers last year.

25039

This doesn't account for who he's playing those minutes alongside, or who the opposition is - that's what RPM and those metrics do.

In Danny we trust, I guess, but I can't stand Cousins and think adding him would be a mistake.

From the outside looking in, the team struggled all year last year with guys failing to buy into Brad's system and pulling in selfish directions (I need my shots, I need my minutes...).

Now after an attempted locker room reboot we're going to throw Boogie Cousins in the mix, on short money and looking for a contract after the season?

How do you think that ends?

agreed. Watching a mediocre talent like Rozier get that deal while IT4 gave his heart, soul and hip to the game is sad.

The Celtics are going to bring in Poirier, I think. It's similar to the under-the-radar Theis signing from a few years ago. Poirier is a more defensive-minded guy than Kanter, and would be a nice complement. He's a stout dude, and should come fairly cheaply. That's the move I want, and the C's have been on him for a while. With his countryman Yabu on the roster, that should make the transition even easier. I know other teams are sniffing around, but I'm confident Danny will get this done.

Word is DeMarcus Cousins wasn't even offered the MLE anywhere.
It doesn't surprise me at all. He took the MLE last summer, came back, got hurt again and then returned as a shell of his former self. He was borderline unplayable. He needs another healthy and complete season before anyone is going to commit money or years to him.

If the Lakers miss out on Kawhi he'll go there, but nothing more than $10MM.

Wow. I thought he'd get more than the minimum for sure.

Honestly if you told me we had gotten Poirier for the RE and Kanter for the minimum I would have been happy. This is even better, since the player I'd rather use in a trade has the salary needed for trade ballast. If Poirier is looking good come mid-season I'd expect Kanter to be shipped out.

100%. I hope he sticks around as a backup PG and good-locker-room bench guy for another decade, never having to put a starter's undue strain on his hip that could cause it all to end in a moment. I hope we sign him in the Brad Wanamaker role in a year or two once he finally comes to terms with the fact that that's going to be the rest of his career.

Yeah, think so. Jamal Murray was reported as 5/170, but it might just be how it's reported. Doubt the Sixers would get cute over $2M with Simmons.
Simmons is going to get $170MM as well. The cap is going to come in slightly higher than expected which will result in $2 million extra over the length of the deal.
