The Lowell Spinners, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, announced they will host a Hot Stove Dinner event with 2004 World Series Champion and playoff hero Dave Roberts, Saturday, January 11 at the UMass-Lowell Inn & Conference Center.
This marks the return of the team's Hot Stove event, a fundraiser for Lowell Spinners Charities, after a two year hiatus.
"We are thrilled to once again offer a Hot Stove event for our great Spinners fans," said Spinners President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "To be able to have Dave Roberts as the keynote guest is a great way to start the celebration of the 10thanniversary of the 2004 Red Sox while also celebrating the 2013 World Series Champion Red Sox."
In addition to Roberts, the dinner will feature visits from other local baseball alumni, both Spinners alumnus and otherwise. The team will present the Dick Berardino Alumni Award, given annually to a Spinners alumnus, currently in the Major Leagues, that best represents the qualities of productivity, work-ethic and coach-ability, the Peter Gammons Media Award and the Greg Montalbano Award.
New awards to be presented at the event include the The Lowell Sun High School Baseball and Softball Players of the Year and the Jr. Spinners Award, an award created to honor a player in the Spinners partnership Elite Baseball program.

January 17: Portland Sea Dogs Hot Stove Dinner:

Boston Red Sox pitcher Brandon Workman, who started the 2013 season with the Sea Dogs and finished the season pitching for the Red Sox in the World Series, will be returning to Portland for the Sea Dogs 2014 Hot Stove Dinner and Silent Auction. Workman will be joined by Red Sox outfielder and former Sea Dog Jackie Bradley Jr. and longtime Red Sox official Dick Berardino. The event will take place on Friday, January 17th at 5:30 PM at the Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland. The event benefits the Maine Children's Cancer Program. Additional guests will be announced.

Not sure where else to put this. An open question from a friend of mine writing a piece on beards for the NYT Styles section: how many of the 2013 Sox had beards? I told him that by the playoffs it was pretty much the whole roster except Uehara and Bogaerts (though even X may have had some peach fuzz). Am I forgetting anyone? Anyone got a precise beard count?

Good music, silent auction with cool stuff, lots of free food from various local restaurants (last year I recall stuff from Sweet Cheeks, the sausage guy, and a bunch of others), great cause.

And the Jimmy Fund New Stars deal is tomorrow, tickets still available

Pawsox Hot Stove open house is Saturday the 25th

New PawSox manager Kevin Boles and new coach Bruce Crabbe will give fans a preview of what the 2014 club will look like. Several PawSox players and top Red Sox prospects like outfielders Bryce Brentz & Alex Hassan, pitcher Steven Wright, and others are expected to attend the party and will be available for photos and autographs.

Always a fun, free event, great for kids.  Players and managers take questions and give solid answers, then there's a long line for autographs where you get a brief one on one with each player/coach/manager.  Free hot dogs, soda, chips/pretzels, etc.  Events take place in the locker rooms and in the batting cage/workout area, which is more fun for the kids.

Tons of free parking, and the hallway that leads to the event sites is totally packed with memorabilia -- a Sox fan could easily spend 3-4 hours just looking at this museum qualify collection of historic Red Sox and Pawsox material.
