Maybe the NJ experience was a little humbling. And if he was unhappy with the perception of his GS teams that absolutely dominated while he was healthy, well, I guess I would be fine with him being similarly unhappy here with a similar outcome.

I would love to have this core win a title together and think they have a great chance to do it if healthy. But this bulk of the current roster + KD goes from tenuous odds-on favorites to overwhelming favorites overnight. I’ll be happy with the team either way.
KD and Tatum pairing would just be absolutely lethal. Certainly risks abound but we don’t know anything about Jaylen’s plans and I’m guessing the Celtics might have some concerns. Who knows.

But a motivated KD with Tatum about to hit his prime is incredibly intriguing to me.

The gigantic unknown is whether they fear Jaylen may leave; we simply have no idea, but I'm sure they have some sense of that, at least high/low/med risk assessment.
While I think this is correct, I think the “also” here is whether or not the Celtics fear giving Jaylen a potential supermax in 3 years. Do they value him at the $50-60m a year it will take to re-sign him if he makes an All-NBA team?

It’s a matchup nightmare for any NBA team in the closing minutes of a game. You throw KD, Tatum, Smart, Brogdon and Al or Time Lord out there in crunch time? Good luck…

They wouldn’t have Smart out there if you believe these reports. Brooklyn wanted Brown/Smart/another rotation player and picks for Durant

How would the third team know about all the specifics? I’d guess this came from the Nets.

They wanted him but I don’t think that Marcus will be included in the deal.

The other option is add Smart and get back Curry (who would be a great fit), but I do wonder how strongly the Celtics view Smart’s leadership.

Brown, White, Grant Williams, 1st and a swap. Git-r-done!
Goddamn I really hate that trade. It will ruin so many of the things that I was looking forward to this year (even more Tatum ascension as the #1 guy, Browns development, can the team take one more step forward) and I honestly just can’t stand Kevin Durant.

I am really really hoping that this is smoke to get another team involved ante up more

If this report is true, it means Jaylen wants his own team. You don’t go and hire Donda Sports to handle your marketing if you’re cool with being the #2 behind Tatum for the long term.
And who is going to give Jaylen Brown his own team? He is not that good. Anywhere he signs, he will be number 2.

People are reading way too much into a trade rumor that might not even be real.

Do tell me which teams will be lining up to make a 27 year old Jaylen Brown their centerpiece. Rebuilding teams? Nope. Teams who are contenders? He's Robin.

He's not getting his own team.

I'm guessing that the FO has a pretty good indication that JB is a goner once his contract is up, and I think that's especially true now that this is out in the open. There has been a lot of smoke out there this past season about Jaylen not really wanting to be Robin to Tatum's Batman and I tend to believe it. IMO if we've gotten to the leaked Jaylen trade proposal stage, Brad is going to make it happen.

Well, he’d immediately be Number 1 on the Nets, at least to start.

If this is coming from Woj and Shams, it ain’t fake.

I’m not saying I agree with it. I’m just saying what may be going on his head.

Except KD did win in GS. Twice.

If a Durant deal brings even one championship, it’s worth it.
Agreed. What GS showed was KD was comfortable (in theory) putting his ego aside for championships. Which he certainly does on the court, not so much off the court where he is quite sensitive over his place in the league.

My concerns are more with durability than fit, so I wouldn't want to trade away ALL of our depth and risk the chance of losing streaks during the regular season. Brogdon and Gallinari certainly gave them a head start with obtaining redundant pieces in the event of a big trade.

I want to be in the room to laugh when Brad is on the phone with Sean Marks over his empty award-based declaration: "We are not giving you Jaylen Brown AND the NBA's defensive player of the year!"

Nobody said that it's fake. Someone leaked it. Who knows that their agenda is though?
Well, I consider “a rumor that might not be real” to be fake, so that’s what I was responding to. I think the Nets probably leaked it, but obviously that’s speculation.

I don't think it's 100% (or even close to 100%) apparent that his tweet means he's shaking his head at the Celtics FO. I mean 2 days ago the Celtics were highlight his amazing workouts. Could be shaking his head at many things, or just the general annoyance of constant twitter rumors.

It's likely that his name is in talks again and he's not very happy.

Anybody who doesn't think that tweet is about the rumor is in denial.
Of course it is. But he could have been told by the Celtics he has nothing to worry about so he's shaking his head at the story.

Or it could mean he's gone. It could mean anything.

I'm sure it is, but it is impossible to know what about the rumors it is referring to. SMH, I'm pissed at the Celtics. SMH at the media stirring things up. SMH at people reacting to these rumors. Who knows?

That’s a nice thought from Brooklyn, but are they so confident Durant is going to start out the season with them? I think we’ve learned many times over at this point that the stars run the league. If Durant isn’t traded, his hamstring is probably sore until it isn’t.

Do you think Durant wants to spend one of his last good remaining seasons not playing?

Not buying Windhorst over Woj/Shams.
Re-read the articles. There is nothing in Shams or Woj that states that BOS has made a recent offer. In fact, Shams said: "No deal for Durant is imminent, and as August and then September loom, the real desire of interested teams will become clear to the Nets."

Woj said that while BOS is in regular contact with NJ (gee, what teams aren't in regular contact with each other), Woj merely states that "Boston's ability to include All-Star forward Jaylen Brown as a centerpiece in offers does help make the team formidable in its pursuit, sources said." I.e., Woj doesn't even indicate that Brown has been offered up.

Obviously, there are player management issues here but given that nearly every NBA player is mentioned in some fake trade at some point during every offseason, hopefully Brad has a way to communicate with the likes of JB, Smart, and White to manage those issues. Hopefully. That's one of those "Inside GM" things that I wish some intrepid reporter would ask GMs about.

"The Boston Celtics recently offered a package around one-time All Star Jaylen Brown for Durant and have emerged as a real threat to acquire Durant, league sources tell The Athletic."

I actually think the Cs would be thrilled to get JB signed to a max contract. It looks like when the stupid money from the new tv deal goes into effect, the cap could jump like 40% in 2025. Any of the younger guys signing max deals the next few years will be considered huge steals when the deal kicks in

I doubt it, basically everyone with insight into Durant has said they expect him to play, it's just the way he's wired. That he even asked to be traded is a huge step for him, he'll play if he's not traded, and expect that in return the Nets will make a real effort to move him.
