Based on what other teams are doing do you spread out the top line talent to make it more difficult for an opponent especially in the playoffs to put the best defenders/faceoff guys (I'm looking at you RO'R) on your all-important line that does everything.

Maybe move down Pastrnak to Krejci's line to see if they can develop czech chemistry. Maybe move down Debrusk as well?
Maybe go:

63-37-Kuhlman
Nord-46-88
TBD-Coyle-TBD
Debrusk-Kuraly-Backes

Do you also even up the D pairings? (strengthen the 3rd pair)

And what's Carlo's contract situation?

Carlo and McAvoy and Heinen are RFA. They need to clear some money to sign them all. And I forgot about Berube being a racist. What a piece of shit.

So Heinen is pretty much gone, huh?

Most likely cap casualties would be? Wagner and Backes, right?

Jesus fucking Christ...this is an off-season gamethread, not a hockey forum. I realize for some people grieving means thinking about next season and cap room and whatnot the second a nine month season ends in heartbreak...well this isn’t the place- take it to RMPS. This is for people in denial and stupid canoe stories and golf outing plans and bragging about men’s league (or disc golf o_O) and general goddamned offseason game-threading.

Craig Berube is a racist shitbag
This is exactly what this thread is for. C’mon.

Fucking 10:40 game in Malden tonight. Just hope nobody hits the roof with a puck because it's that time of year where there's a big condensation buildup that will lead to raining upon the unlucky party that happens to be under the hit area.

I'm going to Mexico on Saturday. If I drank a gallon of tap water and ate pound of raw chicken, I still wouldn't shit myself as bad as Kelly Sutherland did

How is that rink? I got invited to play on a Sunday night team there. They said it wasn’t bad but these guys are used to Hockey Town. Is it actually not bad or just less of a shit hole than Hockey Town.

Mediocre. Locker room is pretty brutal. Ice is fine. Can be decent, can be shit. Isn’t really ever great.

I thought Malden used to have good ice- I certainly remember it being good. Last two times I skated on it was atrocious though. Showers are pretty gross.

If you guys find my wedding ring, snag it. I lost it in one of the rooms maybe 7 years ago.

Yeah the bathrooms and showers are the worst. Disgusting and smell like total shit. For as shitty as Hockeytown is, they at least have good showers.

I have played muliple rounds a week since I moved close to a course. You all should try it. You could buy a bag of discs for the price of one club.
I've played, it's quite fun. i have friends who go often. A bum shoulder made it hard for me to play for a while though- it's been a few years.
But I was giving you some friendly shit...you are the only who who posts hie disc golf exploits. Which is exactly what this thread is for.

I hate the person that showers after hockey every week and never brings his own soap. Every single week.
It happens sometimes, but every week is not cool. You should all chip in and make a big ceremony of presenting him his own soap.

Seconded. We did this at the end of one season with “the tape guy” on our team and it was fucking hilarious.

Looks like it's on Route 9 between Weston Road and Overbrook Drive

900 Worcester St.
Wellesley, MA 02482

That's like 5 minutes from where I grew up / my parents still live... given the area I'm guessing it'll be an arm and a leg for ice time / stick and puck at the outset but shot them an email to ask

Been to a couple of the weekly Babson pickup games on Friday, those are pretty solid - I imagine a good amount of those guys will shift over

Been nice seeing that building getting constructed on drives. What else will be in the building besides the ice rinks?

Re: pricing. Wellesley residents are supposed to get discount prices, since it’s town-owned land. I remain skeptical, but am crossing my fingers.
PSK, I live about five minutes away as well. This is the old St James church property that was in litigation for years.
It’s going to have the aforementioned two rinks, Olympic pool, lap pool, turf field, elevated track, and workout room. It’s huge—looks like an airplane hanger...

Nice - haven't been out there on rt. 9 east in forever, usually get on at rt. 16

Guy already got back to me, looks like they'll have plenty of stick-and-pucks for $10 a pop

Is $10 expensive out there, or a good price? I pay $13 for an hour out here, and have nothing to compare it to, but am hoping to be moving back you guys' way in a few months.

Also, I got my first penalty minutes this week. Was in front of the opponents' net, and this guy (who is one of the few guys in my league most of us consider "dirty") was cross checking me and elbowing me from behind, multiple times, after going out of his way to take me out earlier. So I turned and gave him a good two handed cross check to the chest, and we both got tossed. I felt bad because we were on the forecheck in a 2-2 game, but took my medicine and went to the box. He got pissed at the call (not at me, we talked after the game), and ran his mouth the rest of the game, overtime, and in the handshake line, and got suspended for next week's game.

My teammates, and some of his teammates, took their time to thank me for being someone who finally hit him back. So that was nice.

Still no goals for me yet, but I'm getting closer. Only about 6 games played so far, but I can sort of feel the game slowing down for me a bit every time, so I'm hopeful it will come soon.

For the homeowners out there, how the fuck did you choose a house? Is there actually a moment when you walk in and say “this is the one?” I hate shopping, first of all, and even when it’s for a house I still feel like my 10 year old self being dragged through an Old Navy.

Meanwhile, it’s northern New Jersey so you can barely get a shack in a halfway decent town outside of a flood zone for less than $400k. We do fine and have good jobs and good prospects for upward mobility but shit, taxes alone are an extra 10-13k per year give or take. Seems impossible to find a good deal that wouldn’t require a ton of work, which we don’t have the taste for. And as classic millennials we are starting in our early 30s so we’d rather not settle for a starter home situation if we can help it.

Part of me wants to just wait out the in-laws and take theirs but it feels iffy to even tangentially be hoping for ill health.

We aren’t on a timeline for needing extra space (re: kids), so the whole thing just feels unnecessary when the thing we probably want most in life is to take bomb vacations. Then again we both have basically come to the point of fetishizing the ability to grill out on our deck while 8 dogs and cats run around. Not having come from money fucks with my head so bad, and the last time I made a big financial decision I went to school for too many years and too many dollars. I guess I can’t live in a graduate degree the way I can a house. Shit is stressful. Is it worth the central air and frightening quiet of suburban living?

Feckin offseason.

Do you have an MLS login or have any friends / family who are realtors? Being able to scout out listings pre-market on there was the only way I found mine.

I didn't have that "this is it" moment or anything, but after seeing other things in the Dorchester/Savin Hill area, a couple major pros (lot of light, central air) sold me.

Are you commuting to NYC? How far outside the city is too far? Slash is there a proximity inside which you wouldn't want to live?

I’ve had a 2 hour, 3 state each way commute before that featured a 15 min walk, PATH ride, subway, MetroNorth, and a shuttle to the office, so it’ll never get worse than that.

We are currently right across the river for a nice 45ish minute ride to midtown, so I know moving out to the burbs will be around an hour into the city plus a bit more to get to the office (midtown right now and FiDi starting next year), so I’m well-prepared, if not thrilled, for that aspect. Bergen County has a million little towns and they’re all mostly decent in terms of transit. Wife works in northern NJ so unfortunately her drive has to come into play; we aren’t even really looking at the nice towns in Essex Co. for example.

We like a few towns in particular but the cost is a bitch. Working with a friend of a friend who is a realtor so I think we’re in fine hands. Give us an open floor plan and a good kitchen and we’ll be happy, but those needs = $$$$$$. Basically if it’s nice and in a good town and under 500, it is probably in a flood zone. The prices are nuts.

One thing that stings a bit is my father in law had basically promised his daughters a split of the sale price from his mother’s house after she passed away, before more or less pretending that never happened. It would have helped us out a ton. Hate to even whine about it but it was a dick move.

We can still swing it but we’re both naturally pretty cautious so there’s some impulse to wait. Of course if rates go up we’ll wish we’d have pounced. We’re still fairly new to the hunt so the whole thing takes some getting used to, and we’re looking at doubling what we pay in rent when you account for insurance/utilities/mortgage/taxes...scary stuff.

It's the worst. We're casually looking because I'd kill a puppy for another closet let alone a 2nd bedroom but we at least like were we currently are so it's no big rush. Which is nice because we have a couple parameters that are killing us (pet friendly, elevator, within a mile or so of where we currently are). I get email listings a couple times a day and the prices are just silly season. I love this place but no elevator and that's way out of our range. Still. Every now and then I look at it and sigh. This one would be pretty sweet for Bruins games. But so much money.
Anyway. The point is yeah, I feel your pain.

Ohhhhh one of my favorite pastimes has become checking out the price history. I think owners just fuck around until someone jumps. Bought for 1.1 four years ago, listed at 1.9 three years later sure sure sure.

If that's the case, why not keep renting? Looking for something bigger? I think the whole "renting is throwing money away" saying is largely a myth and the added flexibility of renting is a nice benefit, in addition to being mortgage-free. Of course if you're looking to get something bigger, or places around you don't accept pets, then yeah I can understand the desire to buy.

The process does suck. We did have kind of a “this is it” moment with ours. We had been looking at mostly condos since that was most of the inventory in our price range, then found a single family that was not a fixer upper. So we were pumped. Put in an offer that was accepted. Then found out the insulation was asbestos. You can’t close on a house until the asbestos is removed. Deal called off. Back to looking for a few months. Then got the call that the homeowner for the asbestos house was getting it removed. Deal back on.

I guess the point here is the whole thing is a roller coaster. Try to to get too high or low. Shit is going to happen. We lost a house where we put an offer in slightly over asking to some shitheads who could offer cash. It’s a miserable, torturous experience. But there is a payoff at the end when you do reach the finish line.

Something bigger would be nice but yeah half the time my thinking leans toward this. People throw the "it's an investment" line at me until I put pen to paper and see that with all the money that goes into the house but not towards equity, that pretty much feels like bullshit. Feels more like I'm paying a huge premium to maintain a steady/mandatory savings vehicle that I happen to be able to live inside. So I guess it's a matter of how important the quality of life upgrade is. Trust me, I have been the Devil's Advocate through the entire process so far to make sure we don't dive in to something.

I'm looking around too. My girlfriend is selling her condo in NY (under contract now) and I'll sell my condo here and we're going to buy something bigger. We had been looking condos - honestly I despise yard work or shoveling or any of that crap - but my deceased neighbor last year basically cured me of any kind of interest in shared living.

Yeah, house hunting is scary. I'm looking around with my pending military retirement, and the whole thing is intimidating. I reached out to my cousin's wife this morning, as she is a realtor kind of near where we want to move, so hopefully she will be able to help me get on the right track. Having 3 kids makes the whole thing even worse, because if it was just me and the wife I'd be able to just find a 1 bedroom place where ever we want, but there's no way I'm letting my kids go live with their psycho mom.

I'd really like to stop renting, but I agree that the convenience of it is hard to beat. We are planning on staying where we end up for a long time, so if we do buy we will hopefully be able to finally build up some equity on something, but it is definitely scary getting stuck into a 20 or 30 year loan.

My wife and I got extremely lucky that we we were in a financial position to buy a house at the absolute bottom of the market. We actually closed 8 years ago yesterday in 2011. The issue at the time was, the market was so down that who would sell their house unless they absolutely had too. Well we found those people. Short sale with the previous owners trying to get divorced. We had to wait 5 months for the bank to accept our offer. We were only planning on staying in it for a few years and upgrading but the real estate is so insane now we’re looking at renovating. I would definitely advise getting into the market if it’s at all feasible for you because rent is only going to go up around NYC or Boston or any of the other 4-5 places in this country that actually have a good amount of employment opportunities. Yes you lose flexibility and you have to pay for maintenance but at least they can’t kick you out for reasons out of your control without compensation, you don’t have to share walls with people, and you can always sell and get your money back in a good market if you say screw it i want to just rent again.
