Twins can either put Kelenic at 1B if he shows something in spring training, or more likely Miranda plays first with Kyle Farmer taking over at third.
Kelenic is on SEA, so they might not be thrilled about that. :)

Ok color me bleh on this. The Twins have lots of infield options, and Arraez has his obvious limitations, but I looked at him as a poor man’s Tony Gwynn. I mean, he did just win the batting title. He can flat out hit. And to trade him for a good not great pitcher (no ASG, no CY votes… a #2-3 type) who’s controlled for 2 v. 3 years?

Arraez was the best player in this deal. I’d have preferred the Twins add a player to Arraez and get a true ace. (Of course, that deal might not have existed now, but they could afford to wait for one to emerge, too.) They might ultimately win this trade, but I’m not sure how much Lopez moves the needle for them.

she’s no Derek jeter
I have no idea who was making the actual decisions but someone at some point gets credit for building up a serious stock of pitching led by Alcantara, they still could probably trade another guy and be in very good shape. I am far from a MIA expert, but I believe all of the high level pitching was there before Ng was.

So you’re saying the pitchers haven’t walked in the glow of her majestic presence?

Right, Jeter is an easy target for snark, but he didn’t do too bad of a job with the Marlins from an outside perspective, at least. I do think it’s interesting that of the three OFs they traded away in the same winter, they got the best return for Ozuna, who most would’ve said was the “worst” of the three - they got Alcantara and Zac Gallen for him, and they flipped the latter for Jazz, so it worked out really well. At the time, the trade for Yelich was the consensus “best deal,” everyone thought Brinson was a future star. I’ll also note that I don’t really have a strong opinion on Ng at the moment but this might be one of the moves she’s going to be judged by.

The Twins are evidently going with a 5 outfielder/2 infielder defensive alignment. :)

And Royals have close to the worst OF in the league: Waters, Isbel and Olivares. But the new KC GM has no choice but to deal away dead wood like Taylor for lottery tickets to try and build things up there.

In his career Greinke has earned 218,449,965 $1.50 guacs, but only 182,041,637 $1.80 guacs.

That article is going around, but it’s from 2009. Someone needs to check if he held to his guac policy all these years…

He must really like playing in NY. That’s like #4 starter money. Even less than that looking at the deals Taillon and Taijuan Walker signed.
He wouldn't have hit FA until after 2024, when he would be 33. This gives him an instant substantial raise for the next two years, and of course protects him if he falls off a cliff like many seem to do in their early thirties these days.

It does buy out 2 arb years (his projected arb salary this year was around $6.5m, & he is already almost 31. So it kinda makes sense for both sides.

This one is all arb years so cost-certainty + team option. His projection for this year was around $1.5m.

This sort of stuff makes a lot of sense for everyone...Fairbanks has made like $2.5m for his entire career. He's locked in serious life-changing $, even though he could potentially do better by letting it play out, the risk would seem to greatly overshadow the potential reward. & the Rays have cost certainty & what will likely end up being a discounted rate.

Even if you turn out to be really good, not reaching the majors until you're 26 will deliver a staggering blow to your career earnings. When you're throwing around massive free agent deals, it really helps to be able to lock up a batting champ through age 35 for less than $13M/year.

Mariners getting rid of their grey away jerseys this year.

Link here.

I wish the Ms would go back to the trident and star logo, so I would be pumped if they made their alts their primaries, but it doesn’t look like that’s happening any time soon.

I agree about the trident logo. Meanwhile, the Mariners had six uniform tops last season? Dang

Yeah. I was kind of surprised about that. And I doubt that included the one-off unis like the armed forces ones , etc.
I'm sort of surprised MLB has instituted a rule limiting potential money-making opportunities ... although I suppose they can still sell eliminated jersey types as retro specials

Grey road uniforms might seem bland to some but teams have been wearing them forever and it’s been such a traditional baseball look. It just looks right. The navy blue tops just look like cheap batting practice unis.

I hate the red and blue Red Sox jerseys. Colored jerseys, with a few exceptions, look like softball team jerseys.

Looks like Nike is making them do that. While on one hand I think that the amount of jerseys team were wearing is a bit much. On the other, a manufacturer telling MLB what to do is a bit much

I agree with both of these takes. The red and blue jerseys aren’t great. They look cheap and aren’t designed well. If you’re going to have third or fourth jerseys, keep the overall aesthetic of the team but differentiate them enough from the primaries.

The Sox CC unis took a little while to grow on me, but I really like them a lot. Especially the hat. That’s a great look.

I have to say that I think that Seattle has one of the best looking grey, road jerseys.
Their Sunday cream throwbacks are my favorite jerseys in all of MLB. I even own one of the blue with yellow logo hats.
