Least surprising thing ever.

Valuable player but he's also a luxury that was always sort of puzzling for the Twins. They have holes at cheaper places to fill.

Yeah, I would personally not want to risk my $300M+ investment at 2B. Even with the rule changes in the last couple of years, second base still feels like no country for old men.
Plus Machado (too soon) in the same division, although that’s lessened a bit with the new schedule.

A surprise: Brewers president stepping down. Mets? They were rumored to want him badly.

Joel Sherman thinks Astros might be a possibility. Seems strange that a team going to back to back World Series isn't enough to secure a job, but I guess when you consider the circumstances Click was put into the job, maybe there's never been confidence in him and ownership sees the team success as a result of the previous GM?

NEWS: Nolan Arenado has informed the #STLCards he will be opting in to the remainder of his five-year contract, a source told The Athletic.
Not all that surprising. He's opting into 5/149M. Even coming off a really good season like he is (career high OPS+), I don't know that he's going to find better than that on the free agent market entering his age 32 season.

its going to be extremely hard to enjoy sports if this dreck continues to spread throughout sports.

Ooh, interesting, I hadn't seen that. I got to see him a bunch this year, and he looked good at 3B. I also saw them working him out at 1B in pregame, but didn't get to see him in the outfield, so it must have happened after his move to Memphis.

He is going to be an offensive force, no matter where he ends up.

The Gold Glove winners were announced today for the National League and the Guardians… sorry, I mean the American League.

There were a record 14 first-time winners – it seems we've finally left the old days of awarding DH Rafael Palmeiro a Gold Glove because "reputation!".

I didn’t realize they gave utility players Gold Gloves.
Good for those two
And great for Mookie, # 6 for him

No Red Sox won.

Is it just my faulty memory or did they really
used to announce the MLB awards during the World Series? Seems they’re getting announced Nov 14-17
Finalists announced Nov 7

Like Cy Young, MVP, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year?

No. That was always done in November and it was dragged out over three weeks. It got baseball some press back in the days when once the season was over, the sport went into hibernation.

Joc Pederson, wow. He has 0.9 total bWAR from 2020-22 in over 1000 PAs, feels like he’d be crazy to not accept that.

The Giants must really like him and feel that the alternatives to replace him aren't attractive. He did hit really well this year (144 OPS+). His WAR takes a hit because of abysmal defense. Maybe they think he can DH more?

It only takes one team, but I don't think Willson Contreras is going to get the money people are predicting (this looks like a very well-done piece at first glance, they have him at 4/84). I say under $50M, maybe 3/42 or 3/45.

Feel like the Sox should be all over him at that price.

Houston #Astros GM James Click actually was fired. He was offered a one-year contract and raise from his $1 million salary on Monday, turned it down in pursuit of a longer contract, and was dismissed Friday after publicly airing his grievances at the GM meetings.

The Houston Astros also fired assistant general manager Scott Powers, sources told ESPN. Powers was a former R&D executive with the Dodgers who was brought in as an AGM by James Click in January. Now Click and Powers are gone from the World Series champions on the same day.
