I like watching Waters. He's crazy active on defense, and has an obscene handle.

I can't get the game from my hotel and even reading about Yabu here is making me irritated. Get this guy off the damn team I don't care about his salary!

Is Yabu here to offer veteran leadership or something?

Its not a great game and Tacko is the star. That said, Yabuesele hasn't been totally terrible. But he is doing nothing to make a case to keep him around.

Thoughts from second half:

1. Waters is a legit PG, albeit a small one. I like him as a 2-way developmental guy. Even here in the chaos of summer league, he's showing off a variety of passes, driving, and creating for teammates, recovering loose balls to extend possessions.

2. Edwards used the fact that the defense has to respect his outside shot to blow by guys for layups. He did nothing to dispel the notion that he can be a bench scorer.

3. GWill is strong and had a nice spin move on the post.

4. Time Lord has had an up and down half. Sometimes looking clueless, sometimes missing loud dunk attempts, but also driving from the 3 point line for a dunk.

5. Fall hit a pair of free throws, even if one was banked

6. Yabu... no comment.

Some numbers:

Arson: 14 points, 6/10 from field, 3 rebounds, 2 assists
TimeLord: 10 points, 4/9 from floor
Waters: 11 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals
Grant: 5 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, team leading +20
Tacko: 12 points, 5/5 from floor, 2/2 line, +9 in 11 minutes

And they ALL showed something.

Max Carlin is a great Twitter follow for people looking for SL analysis, complete with quickly edited clips. He’s doing most games, but he’s a Celtics fan at heart, and a hardcore Grant and Carsen stan. @maxacarlin

The Celtics JV played with more togetherness, spirit, and heart than what I saw all year from the real Celtics. After getting sloppy and letting the Cavs make it close, they got serious and destroyed Cleveland.

I love watching the four rookies. Williams is so fundamentally sound, and always seems to be in the right place. Waters is so heady and has a great feel for the game at both ends. Edwards is a freaking gunslinger on offense, and isn't afraid to use his stout body and quick feet to mix it up on defense against bigger covers.

It will be a shame if the Celtics don't keep Fall. Could he eventually bring to an NBA team what Gobert brings to the Jazz? He's already showed me more offense that the Stifle Tower, with a really smooth right handed jump hook from the left block. He runs a lot better than I thought, and has good hands. Developing more core strength would really help.

The best sign is that the team was at its best when these guys were running the show rather than the camp invite types trying too hard to make an impression. Once the typical SL guard heroball stopped they resumed dominance.

Grant is going to piss opponents off for years. Looks like an incredibly sound player with some unrealized potential as he extends his range. He was a calming influence out there. In the right place, making the right decisions.

Edwards was just a great pick. Been dying for a hot pocket scorer off the bench for years and we just grabbed him at 33. Wait til he is in 5-out lineups with oodles of space. Bombs away baby.

I suspect TL will remain frustrating throughout the season but I am merely looking for development this year, not excellence.

These are some scrappy fucking players.

Carlin had Grant Williams rated 4th on his draft board!

I came away from the game really impressed with the play of Tre Waters. This kid can ball.

He and Robert Williams have had the makings of some chemistry in the two-man-game and, with both of them being good passers for their position, is something I would kill to see more of. Pick and roll, drive and kick, and the alley oop game would be pure basketball porn.

Just for reference, do you remember Jerome Moiso? Fab Melo?
Hey man, thanks for popping in and reminding a whole thread of folks that know a lot about basketball that this is just summer league. I was afraid we were all thinking we were going to roll this same squad out in the fall and win 50+ games, but I know better now.

Please award yourself 50 internet points, light yourself a cigar, and tell your partner you won the internet.

Just for reference, you are the man.

Don't mean to sound like a buzzkill with all the Grant Williams love, and no doubt he can play, but he's still an undersized (short) PF with probably limited potential because of that

That play was the inspiration for my hot “Grant is good” take.

He is also a key member of WCT
Now that Jam went and got himself a podcast, I feel like it’s gone mainstream. I had a plan to splice up all of Smarf’s charges-taken and loose-ball dives, along with the gifs of him doing the kip-up ninja move, then set it to Chumbawumba’s Tubthumping, with clips of Danny giving his shit-eating grin during the “Oh Danny Boy” refrains, and bask in the warm WCT glow, but it seemed like a lot of work and I think most of them are too young to know Chumbawumba anyway, so I never got around to it.

I am here for that if you do it. I would watch that on an endless loop.

You can tell the NBA is really making an effort to add women to teams Executive ranks. Have to say everyone that has been interviewed (Swin Cash just now) has been very impressive.

Here's a half-hearted defense of Yabu.

But more importantly, don't forget what DA himself said when the Cs picked up Yabu's option (quote from reddit article):
I mean isnt this all lip service? Of course DA is going to pump up a player under contract on the team. Im sure hes said something along these for a guy like Orien Greene or similar players. Or any player really. I mean that quote contains so much coach and gm speak if anything its redundant

I think this goes way beyond GM-spaek but YMMV.

Jaxson Hayes had an awesome debut tonight for New Orleans, 28 points and about a dozen dunks, including an epic poster in the second quarter. Also had a couple of great, athletic blocks. If Zion had the game Hayes just did, the internet would have melted down:

Grant Williams seems to know how to let the game come to him. That can overcome undersized.

Most of us do, but they atleast offered physical upside and raw games. Yabu is an scared bear in a china shop. So if you want to make that assessment, what does Yabu do better than them?
I keep expecting Yabu to show some upside skill. When he was drafted, the word was that he could hit the 3-pointer. Maybe, but he hasn't yet. The other word was that he had an impressive vertical leap. Once upon a time, perhaps, but he hasn't gotten any thinner and gravity is always going to hold him down. Yabu is down there with Marcus Banks among the Ainge whiffs.

Now I have seen Strus play, and I'm doubling down on the Abdel Nader comparison.
The similarity is all in the facial hair grooming. I'd rather lose Strus and keep Tacko.
