The Penguins always play better under Sullivan when they have at least five guys on IR.

A lot of superfluous camera angles on the ESPN broadcast that don't really do anything besides be distracting/make it hard to see the puck.

yeah, I like the "rush" or whatever the hell they called it that showed a "new" angle. Come on guys. There's been a lot of work put in to get the best camera angles available to broadcast games. There's probably a reason those angles aren't being used anymore.

If you bet under (it was 5.5) you were smelling like a rose with 8 minutes left, and then all hell broke loose.

Has there ever been a team with 50% of its goals as ENGs at any point during the season? I have to imagine the 1-0 lead and ENG to make it 2-0 has happened at some point in a season opener but 3/6 is wild

If you take Chuck out of the equation, Tappen, Jones and Sharpie was so much better

5 man booth is a bit much for non-football pregame

Nice to have a guy like Gretzky on the broadcast, but geez someone needs to tell him to shut up when someone scores a goal. Twice.

That Ovechkin Backstrom commercial is phenomenal. Ovechkin really is the Peyton to Brady's Crosby.

How is there only one game today, the first weekend of the regular season? It doesn't make any sense. And that game is against two teams who played last night......

Habs now 0-3. No Price or Weber. Draft is in Montreal and Shane Wright is the consensus top pick. Hmmm.
They likely won’t have that pick due to the Dvorak trade. Arizona gets the better of MTL’s two first rounders next year unless both picks end up in the top 10. It’s highly unlikely Carolina is in the top 10.

Edit lol Habs already down 2-0 to SJS less than 4 minutes in tonight

California. Duh.
How can a schedule be set up so that Seattle is playing their 5th game the night before Boston plays its second?

Montreal is an early season disaster, 0-4-0 having been outscored 15-3. Only team without a point. Chicago is another team in an early crisis. 0-3-1 and haven't really been competitive. Both situations were fairly predictable. Montreal sucked last year and lost Danault, Price and Weber. Chicago sucked last year and made a bunch of headline moves but seems like a classic case of a year or two too early. Colliton is probably on the hot seat given the unrealistic expectations.

The Sabres on the other hand are a cushy 3-0-0. Surprising, but they've also had an easy schedule. Montreal, Arizona and Vancouver. 6 of their next 8 games are against non-playoff teams so it wouldn't be crazy for them to hang around for another couple of weeks before the bottom falls out.

I really hope you are right, but the nhl.com article about the Dvorak trade says: "The Coyotes will receive the higher of the Canadiens' two first-round picks in the 2022 draft and a second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft for Dvorak. If either or both of the first-round picks is in the top 10, then the Coyotes will receive the lower of the selections."

Damn, you're correct. I missed the "either" in the language of the conditions. Turns out to be a pretty critical word.

On the flip side, FLA is 4-0-0 with wins over Pittsburgh, NYI, Tampa and Colorado. They look to have real staying power.

Edmonton is 4-0-0 as well and McDavid has 11 points in 4 games.

Rangers score three goals in the last six minutes or so to beat the Senators 3-2. Didn't expect that. After a somewhat tumultuous off season they're off to a fine start. It's early of course, but the rebuild may be coming to a close. I mean, it should be, but all the firings and what not had me wondering if they were going to keep moving in the right direction. So far so good.

Yeah. Aside from the opening night beatdown they got it Washington all their games have been close. Defense is a work in progress but seems better. Shesterkin might be the real deal.

They were not impressive at all against the Senators. They looked like crap for most of the game and could not deal with Stutzle (he drew 4 penalties). Refs gave a bs embellishment call to Stutzle because he wasn't born in North America and what should have been a Senators powerplay up 2 with 5 minutes left ended up as a 4 on 4.

Chicago got pounded again last night, 6-3 to Detroit. 0-5-1 and have been outscored 27-12. Fleury has an .839 save percentage. Seth Jones looks awful, 41% xGF% and has been outscored 10-1 at even strength.

The Nick Ritchie honeymoon is over in T.O. He has a nice round 0-0 through 6 games and is a minus 3. And the Leafs suck. Bad times on the way.

Prediction: Leafs fire Keefe. Totally undeserved, but he's who they can fire.
In response: Chicago fires Colliton, hires Keefe.

They won’t fire Keefe. They already pushed the coaching change button with this group. The regular season is pretty irrelevant for them. It’s been bumpy in the past but they’ll likely make the playoffs. That’s what they’ll be judged on this year. Drastic changes will be made, probably far above Keefe (I think Shanahan maybe) if they flame out again.
