Maybe he's suffered too many concussions, and has a Harmed Jock Bell?

Wait....we're doing anagrams, right?

If he lusted after a particular Boston sports radio mid-day host he'd be Oh!Dale! Beckham Jr.

On the flip side, if he decided celibacy was the way to go, he'd be No Tail Beckham, Jr.

If he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become a Library Detective, he'd be Odell Bookman Jr.

Dark, and cold.
The lonely goatherd huddles on the floor of
the cave he has fallen into
Staring at the single shaft of light filtering through a crevice, high above.

Suddenly, a shadow. A cloud?
A stray goat? A person? He has been dreaming of his father...

The goatherd swallows, trying to gather strength to issue his familiar call
Before he can even gasp, his prayers are answered - his father's voice, clear and strong:

Odell lay he hoo! Be Calm, Junior!

Can someone explain the helmet rule to me? On the replay it seemed to me like he was well off of the field of play when he took the helmet off - even past the white out of bounds markers. Why was he flagged? Does he have to be on the side of the field to take off his helmet and not just out of the field of play?

If he goes to a high school where the seniors haze the 8th graders after the last day of school, and repeats his senior year, then he could be O'Bannon Wackem Jr.

He has to be in the bench area, which is between the two 30 yard lines.

If his terrible QB finally got him the ball more consistently, he'd be Jerry Rice Jr.

For all the crap he gets, the dude is a phenomenal football player and athlete. He was as unstoppable as it gets in the second half, and the dude took a slant on fourth down and outran pretty much an entire defense while hurt with the game on the line.

The flags are obviously a concern, but you take the bad with the good, and the good is really, really good. I don't think any Giants fan was pissed about a flag after that last TD. Ben McAdoo can pretend he was, but he'll take a W and a 15 yard penalty on a kickoff over a loss any day.

But isn't this view with hindsight. A fifteen yard penalty for an opposing that has about a minute and half to still drive down the field is a pretty big deal.

I don't think his football skills are in question. He is an amazing talent. But all that other BS, and his behavior after he scored, was ridiculous and it cost his team yards. Maybe Week 6 doesn't matter that much but it's just about the 5th consecutive game he's done something showy. At some point, that has to stop because there is too much light on his actions.

Proposing to the field goal net, after pulling off his helmet and chucking it, is the maneuver of an 11 year old.

He''s a total me first player. Scores a crazy TD near the end of the game to put his team ahead. Instead of celebrating with his teammates he knowingly takes a 15yd penalty and runs off by himself to do some contrived BS with the net.

Amazing talent no doubt, but he was pretty obnoxious yesterday.

Serious question - was that actually a penalty though?
Looking at the video he was not on the field of play when he took his helmet off. He crossed the corner of the extension of the end zone while running back to the bench, but that's it.

Video (skip to 4 minutes 30 seconds):

The rule is: Removal of his helmet by a player in the field of play during a celebration or during a confrontation with a game official or any other player.

I think the player technically has to be between the 30s where the official bench areas are, but QBs take their helmets off all the time going to the sidelines during timeouts, etc.

I think it's largely a reputation thing at this point. There's an obvious spotlight on him, and the refs can and will throw a flag on him for stuff like that. IMO, it was a BS penalty, but he's brought that kind of attention on himself.

Football is entertainment. Not everyone can be stoic with cutoff hoodies and blank stares. Flagging a guy for taking his helmet off and running to the bench after a huge game changing play is lame.

I think the Giants tried to curb his flamboyance, if you will, and he was making comments that he wasn't having fun playing football anymore. I think he's a guy that thrives on the attention as much as the competition on the field, but does genuinely want to win, be great, and play football every week.

It's like being mad at Brady for screaming and headbutting people like a fucking maniac after scoring TDs. They express themselves differently, but it's the same damn thing.

The NFL rules are dumb because its a league run by a peter principle moron, but at the same time its pretty dumb and selfish to take your helmet off when its an automatic penalty. I wouldnt be mad at him as Giants fan, the whole 200 yards of awesome thing sort of swamps it, but he has to cut down on these mental lapses.

The helmet rule - otherwise known as the Emmitt Smith rule - preceded Goodell's reign by like a decade. I know it's en vogue to shit on him around these parts but he had nothing to do with the implementation of that rule.

I also personally find the whole kicking net thing hilarious.

he has to cut down on these mental lapses.
Pretty sure he knew exactly what he was doing, exactly what would happen, and didn't care.

I think everyone agrees that he may be a little bit too me first, or a little bit selfish, but I would still take him on my roster and cheer for him every week because he has the ability to completely change a game every time he touches the ball or make a play so spectacular, the internet breaks.

He's an entertainer as much as a football player, and football, again, is entertainment.

That's great and all, and Id root for him on my team too and think he's a really good player, but if it wasn't a mental lapse its actually worse.

Maybe mental lapse isn't the right term, and he can still be an entertainer and do his kicking net stuff and all that, but if cornerbacks are going to be able to take him out of game mentally by riling him up and if he's going to take penalties like he took on Sunday he's not going to be as valuable a player as he could be.

Why is it that David Ortiz can smash a phone booth and receive the debris as a retirement gift, and Paul O'Neil could destroy water coolers left and right to demonstrate that he's a True Yankee, but Odell Beckman shoves a net and he's a bad guy?

Baseball is a much more individualistic sport. And it's not just the net when it comes to Beckhem and that wasn't an isolated incident. He's been a distraction, which the team has admitted and he's shown he's easy to rattle, which is helpful to opponents.

Also, ONeill has been retired for 15 years, he's probably not a good 2016 comp.
