Nah. Gardner sits if McCutchen performs well.I guess we'll be seeing Judge again in March 2019.
No, the takeaway is that Shane Robinson and Brett Gardner aren't quite doing the job. Hicks and Stanton are doing just fine. Still very surprised this move was not Curtis Granderson.so is the take away Judge is spending the summer in the Hamptons?

Do you know the date of the Punto deal?Man, the whole trade-deadline thing is a real farce these days, isn't it? Used to be that the only players traded in August were those who weren't worth their contracts (and thus might be waived). Now All-Stars are moving. Maybe I just don't understand what's changed.
Let's see who the second prospect is, McCutchen isn't a MVP candidate anymore and will be a FA in a month and Avelino isn't nothing, he is a 23 year old solid defensive SS who has 15 HR and 25 SBs between AA and AAA this year.yeah but Adrian Gonzalez had 3 albatrosses tied around his neck on the way out the door. Here, McCutchen is moving basically for free (yes SF has compensation, but the distinction between pre-7/31 and August trades seems... faint). I just feel like that's a move that we wouldn't have seen 10 years ago, and that something has changed in the interim with waiver-trade-period rules, but I just didn't pick up on it.
I think it's the opposite of that, Judge got hurt on August 1 and they've been playing freaking Shane Robinson for four weeks in a pennant race. Steinbrenner would have made his GM trade for Granderson or someone else with big name recognition that night, whatever the cost.It is like the ghost of GSB is running the team.
I think the inflection point was when the White Sox filed a waiver claim for Alex Rios in 2009, and the Jays stepped back and said “he’s yours.” That move didn’t work out terribly for the Chisox — Rios sucked down the stretch in 2009, but he gave them a couple good seasons, and they managed to dump the last year and a half of his contract on the Rangers. But I think it opened GMs’ eyes to the risk involved in making a waiver claim — if Rios had been damaged goods, the Chisox would’ve had no recourse.Man, the whole trade-deadline thing is a real farce these days, isn't it? Seems like exactly the kind of player that Cutch fetches, maybe a smidge better.Avelino, 23 year old 2B/SS - in AA he put up a 945 OPS in 211 plate appearances. Promoted to AAA and only put up a 663 OPS in 290 plate appearances.
Still young though
Agreed. Nice move for the Yankees. I fully expect McCutchen to be very good for them.I don;t like it when the MFy's get stronger. This seems like a steal for them.
Surprised the A's didn't get him instead (well, ignoring the purse). They need an upgrade at LF/CF.
This would not bother me at all. Be thrilled not to see that melon head.Great news.

Is it true that Stanton has sore hammies? If that's true, no way he can play LF at YS.....on the road though maybe who knows. Not sure where I should put this, but with McCutchen's addition and Sanchez back Saturday and Didi close behind, hopefully NY can use a lineup like this on their West Coast trip starting Monday:
Hicks CF
Stanton LF
Gregorius SS
Andujar DH
Sanchez C
McCutchen RF
Gleyber 2B
Voit 1B (.983 OPS for NY so far, ride the hot hand)
Walker 3B
That leaves out Bird and Gardner.
If/when Judge is back, I guess put Andujar back at 3B and Judge at DH (he is better defensively than McCutchen but probably makes sense to let him mostly DH for the rest of the season if possible).
They said that a couple of weeks ago but it's clearly not serious since he hasn't gotten any days off.Is it true that Stanton has sore hammies? If that's true, no way he can play LF at YS.....on the road though maybe who knows.
I think the way to go for NY is keep Gardner in LF, Hicks in CF and McCutcheon in RF and just DH Stanton
How's that working for him? They said that a couple of weeks ago but it's clearly not serious since he hasn't gotten any days off.
They didn't clear waivers - the Dodgers claimed both Gonzalez and Beckett. So GMs are more risk-averse now, which explains why BC was able to get Gonzalez and Beckett through waivers in 2012.
Yes, but they got through the entire AL and half the NL, even though both contracts (particularly Gonzo’s) likely had positive value at that point. My understanding is the Dodgers were talking trade with the Red Sox when they placed those claims. They didn't clear waivers - the Dodgers claimed both Gonzalez and Beckett.
Yes, he cleared waivers, but he's not the player he was a few years ago. He is a great fit for NY currently, but keep in mind he just got traded from PIT to SF this past January and they got a solid reliever with team control plus an OK AA outfield prospect. NY gave up two genuine prospects here, much more than the Cubs gave up for Daniel Murphy last week (for example).Well, under the same article posted by jungleboy there is this link that states Mccutchen cleared waivers. This changes things, as the Giants could have traded him anywhere and demand a better return.
If that's true about the prospects (and I'm not doubting you), who resurrected Steinbrenner and put him back in charge?Yes, he cleared waivers, but he's not the player he was a few years ago. They're not top prospects for NY, but NY's farm system is so deep that they are genuine talents. MLB had them at #23 and #26 in the NY system, RAB didn't have either in their most recent top 30 but just below. Again, Avelino is a 23 year old solid defensive SS who has 15 HRs and 25 SBs between AA/AAA this year, those guys don't grow on trees. If that's true about the prospects (and I'm not doubting you), who resurrected Steinbrenner and put him back in charge?
If you're going to make this reference on this website, please do it properly.Do you know the date of the Punto deal?
Sure, but McCutchen is a slightly above average hitter who is a minus in the OF and will be a FA at the end of the year. If the Red Sox traded Steve Pearce for him, I'd be mad. They're not top prospects for NY, but NY's farm system is so deep that they are genuine talents. He is a minus in CF but will be a plus in the small RF in NY, I think. My point is that it was mentioned here that the Giants had less leverage because of the waiver situation. Having cleared them that is not the case.Yes, he cleared waivers, but he's not the player he was a few years ago.
