So I think clearly Castillo should be NY's priority and he would be an incredible #2 through 2023, a preemptive replacement for Taillon leaving this winter. I would try to do it without Volpe (obviously), Peraza (unlikely but a man can dream), Dominguez (supposedly CIN is not high on him anyway) and both of Waldichuk/Warren (LHP who are close). So maybe I'd suggest:

Sweeney
Pereira
German (under control through 2024)
two prospect SPs, CIN can choose from: Waldichuk/Warren/Wesneski/Medina/Vazquez/Sikkema/Gomez and whoever else, you just can't take both lefties as I said.

That's a good offer, I think, those pitchers all have high ceilings and are pretty close. If CIN prefers pitchers at lower levels and farther away from needing to be protected, NY has those too.

Also Sean Murphy would be a great fit a lot of places, but teaming him with Trevino the next few years is an exciting thought. He would not be cheap and NY could be outbid, but I would rather pay up for him than Happ or Benintendi.

I like this idea quite a bit. With the way Hicks has looked over the last month or so, and Carpenter filling in a bit, the OF is not as much of a concern as it was earlier.* Murphy would be a great fit both now and in the near future. It really is an exciting thought.

It's a shame that Rortvedt has had a lost season so far. It would have been really nice to see what he could do early and have a better idea of how he fits going forward.

* Soto would sure be nice though.

Rortvedt is back finally at least, three games this week in AAA so far.

Josh Breaux is also maybe pushing into the picture, 16 HRs in 244 ABs in AA/AAA and possible passable defense. He was NY's 2nd round pick in 2018, #61 overall.

Stanton to the IL with an Achilles issue. If that more than just a precaution, does it change priorities?

Yes, but it’s not, he was basically day to day and they just said ‘let’s give it another week, get it fixed, and get a replacement up’.

This is what I keep talking about, NY has an endless supply of high upside pitchers. Sikkema was going to need to be protected this winter, the other two are promising also, but Matt Blake will just keep making new batches, heh.

I am not a huge Benintendi fan but he will fit in very well to this lineup in the role they wanted Gallo to fill, who will presumably be moved shortly (maybe tonight even for that spot).

Also nicely done to snag Benintendi going into a four game series with KC! That feels like it's worth maybe half a win right there. :)

Good contact hitter that the lineup probably needs. Cost is reasonable. This is a good move.

Yeah, I love this deal, those three guys are all at high A or low A and Sikkema needs to be on the 40 man already. Also Cashman is going to get something back for his own OF rental in Gallo, that has to go down very soon.

Benintendi has a .844 OPS against RHP, just .663 against LHP, so ideally he will platoon in LF.

Yankees did great here. So if you're a Royals fan, wouldn't you be a little pissed that one of your better players agrees to get vaxxed the second he's playing for a different team? I know they weren't contenders anyway, but I'd be a little insulted.

Moment of silence for those three guys traded, they're going where pitching prospects go to wither and die.

Hahaha, BA is almost never very relevant but Gallo is hitting .161 and Benintendi is hitting .320.

Judging by xFIP, NY gave up their #2 in low A in Champlain (2.72) and their #1 and #4 in A+ (Sikkema - 2.94; Way - 3.93).

Prior to the season, Fangraphs had Sikkema as #18 (FV 40) and Way as #26 (FV 40). Probably not a bad trade by Kansas City for a rental.

DRS has Benintendi +1 for the season and Gallo at 0 (although I think he has been a lot better recently) so basically a push.

Three more deals at least coming, I think, in order of how likely I think they are to happen:

1) Gallo for a mid-level prospect or maybe two. This seems like it should happen by tomorrow's game so everyone can move on, but maybe Cashman will stretch it out even longer.

2) Castillo for 4 or 5 prospects, really hoping they can keep Peraza out of this. Sweeney, Pereira, Waldichuk (or Warren if they prefer a guy they don't have to protect for a while, Warren was a 2021 pick who is already crushing AA), Vazquez and maybe another pitcher is a big offer, that's what I would aim for.

3) A reliever, although Cashman understands much better than us how he is already positioned in this area. Chapman, Britton, Green and Castro are all FAs this winter, so ideally someone to slot in there longer-term if possible.

Royals are gonna have to change their signs and tendencies.

NY really has a seemingly endless supply of pitching, today's example:

Chandler Champlain just got moved in the Benintendi deal, a 2021 9th round pick who was pitching well in low A.

So NY promoted Sean Hermann into his spot in low A, he just turned 19 in June. He is a 2021 14th round pick who was putting up good numbers in the FCL, and he is through 5 scoreless in his debut currently, 5 3 0 0 2 5 on 69 pitches.

https://www.milb.com/player/sean-hermann-702314

Oddly NY is not as good with their higher round pitcher selections but the middle and low rounds they have been killing. Will Warren was their 2021 8th round pick who has already been promoted twice and is already looking too good for AA. This is why NY just drafted 15 pitchers in 20 rounds, keep giving Matt Blake new guys and he will seemingly keep churning out trade chips and keepers.

If it helps, I am a Knicks fan too, and just 'young' enough to have no memory of 73 (my first sports memory is Chris Chambliss winning the ALDS in 1975 when I was 8), I have been a fan now for over 40 years. The nineties teams were fun, but yeah.

If they actually bring kids up to help, then not making moves is fine.

If they keep bringing up Shane Greene and Ryan Weber, well, that's stupid.

Deivi Garcia pitched for the first time in months yesterday, in AA. He looked very good, 4 2 0 0 0 6 on 53 pitches, one of the hits was a bunt. He is still 23.

My takeaway is that Boone expects some changes, and help is coming from the farm.

Could be a guy like Sears or Clark Schmidt in the rotation and RP backfill though. Maybe a different AAA SP gets an extended audition for multi-inning relief.
