If he's healthy, I think they could give him away after next season for a $4mm per year subsidy -- someone would take on 3/39 or thereabouts for the age 33-35 seasons of an elite defensive catcher. Obviously, all bets are off if he breaks down physically. That's the real risk of this contract; his subpar season makes it less likely the MFY could find someone to gamble on a bounce-back if McCann were to get hurt and the club decided to move on.
