Some Twitter rumblings of a Jasson promotion on Friday. Maybe if some of these waivers guys get claimed?

Friday is 9/1 when rosters go to 28, so they wouldn’t need to clear spots for him and Wells. They are at 39 on the 40 man so would need a spot there but that would be easy.

Ah, forgot about rosters expanding. He's doing well in very small AAA sample so doesn't hurt to give him a taste of the bigs and then hope it helps him as he prepares for 2024. Don't think anyone would be too surprised if he pulled a Volpe and won the job in ST next year.

Especially with the added incentive in the new CBA where you get a 1st round pick and more draft money if your top prospect is up for the full season and wins ROY (Gunnar Henderson about to get BAL yet another top pick).

Yup, I absolutely love that new wrinkle. Orioles with an embarrassment of riches. I’m kind of worried about them going hard after Yamamoto as a sleeper team. High end SP is pretty much all they lack.

I think the bidding on him will go well past what Bloom is comfortable with, but we’ll see.

I don't know who Spencer Howard is, but he was just cut opening up a spot on the roster.
A scrub pitcher who they got at the deadline because he is controlled for a while, but he got hurt again soon after and was a long shot anyway. They have at least two more AAA pitchers taking up 40 man spots who no one would miss.

No no, he was a top 30 prospect a few years back. Had him on my dynasty team :)
Yep, before 2020 and 2021, baseball is hard. This might be one of those moves to just get him off the 40 man but keep him in the organization if possible.

Really liked him, especially his defense, and obviously his 5 postseason HRs last year in just 9 games, but holy shit was he horrible this year against RHP. A .510 OPS, a .267 SLG, yoiks.

Severino left yesterday hurt and is very likely done for the season, the aggressive move would be to promote Will Warren and give him a few starts. He doesn't need to be on the 40 man yet this winter but they might as well start his clock and start to see what they have in him. His AAA ERA is 4.07 but the IL is such a hitter's league this year that only 3 other SPs in the league have a better ERA and more innings (84).

He is already 24 and NY's other top SP prospects are at or near their innings limits, I hope this happens.

Florial finally gets the call, added to the 40 man and 28 man roster to replace Dominguez. He hit two HRs yesterday in AAA, career high six RBIs. Welcome back!!

Horrible news with the wonder kid, Jasson Dominguez, The Martian tearing his right UCL and going to have Tommy John surgery. Out at LEAST six months.

Is Florial likely to cut into Pereira’s playing time? (sorry for the mostly fantasy related question, but it’s the playoffs baby).

Florial will play a lot of CF and Pereira a lot of LF, they are just trying to keep Pereira under 130 ABs so he maintains rookie status next year.

Florial is exciting to me, really hope he does something with this next few weeks. He is still only 25 and was closing in on a 30/30 season in AAA, 28 HRs (2nd in the IL) and 25 SBs. NY has used so many low-ceiling journeymen (hello Willie Calhoun) over him that most assumed he would not make it back to the 40 man for NY, but here he is, even if it's in the worst possible way. Go Estevan!!!

Florial was as high as the #26 overall prospect in MLB in BP in 2018 (when he was 20). Injuries and a lost 2020 set him back but he has kept pushing, his three year AAA OPS numbers have been .719/.849/.945 this year. And he is another lefty bat!

Also this is striking:

2022 in AAA: 15 HRs and 46 RBIs in 403 ABs.
2023 in AAA: 28 HRs and 79 RBIs in 409 ABs.

79 RBIs in 101 games is impressive for anywhere in the lineup, but even more when Florial has been leading off all season.

Peraza seems like he’s starting to hit.
Once again NY in their (less than) infinite wisdom have brought a guy up and immediately switched him to a position where he barely played in the minors, like Cabrera in the OF last year. Even though Peraza spent so much of this year in AAA and Volpe clearly was set at SS if at all possible, Peraza played just 5 games at 3B in AAA this season, the first 5 of his minor league career, then was brought up to play there every day. It really seems like malpractice to me.

Anyway, that could be part of why he struggled his first week or so back but yeah, 15-40 now in his last 10 games, .375 BA.

I read this post and came to the conclusion that yeah, it's F'd up, but I'm glad it's working out this way. The games don't matter for the rest of this season and a successful test run at 3B would be great for him and the team next year. Being a super flexible IF that can potentially be great defensively at SS, 2B and 3B will help get him in the lineup regularly so we can see how that bat develops.

It's irritating that they didn't have him working at 3B more in AAA though. I don't understand it.

Mike Axisa points out that NY literally has a full pitching staff on the IL or suspended now:

Rotation: Nestor Cortes (shoulder), Domingo Germán (restricted list), Luis Gil (elbow), Frankie Montas (shoulder), Luis Severino (oblique)
Closer: Jonathan Loáisiga (elbow)
Setup: Scott Effross (elbow), Ian Hamilton (groin)
Middle: Albert Abreu (groin), Jimmy Cordero (suspended), Lou Trivino (elbow), Keynan Middleton (shoulder)
Long: Ryan Weber (elbow)
