River Ave Blues reporting Miguel Andujar being called up.

It's fun, but I hope the kids get to play.
Really good news because Andujar potentially is an impact hitter who can play third while Headley fills the abyss at first base.

Wow! That is quick, but he is already on the 40 man and I do think they'd like him to be the 3B of the future (Torres at 2B).

If he works out, it pushes not just Headley but Castro one step closer to the door, because Torres is going to be on this team out of spring training next year, assuming of course he is healthy.

Two 22 year olds promoted in 2 days, exciting times for Yankee fans. Now get Dustin Fowler up!

NY only has 6 players over 30 left on the 40 man, and most of them should be gone by next April:

Headley (33)
Ellsbury (33)
Gardner (33)
Clippard (32)
Sabathia (36)
Holliday (37)

Three of those six are FAs (the bottom 3) and the top 3 have prospects ready or close to ready for their jobs (Andujar, Fowler, Frazier).

So what is your 2019 lineup, Jon? Need the 5 starting pitchers, too, when you have time.

Here is my uninformed guess
C -- Sanchez.
1B -- Judge
2B -- Torres
SS -- Didi
3B -- Andujar
LF -- Frazier
CF -- Fowler
RF -- Harper

SPs -- Severino, Montgomery, Kaprielian, Adams, ?

Well, I will go with what I think Cashman's best case scenario is, obviously everyone doesn't always work (ahem, Bird):

C: Sanchez
1B: Bird
2B: Torres
SS: Didi
3B: Andujar
LF: Frazier
CF: Fowler
RF: Harper/Judge
DH: Judge/Harper

Bench: Wade, Hicks, backup C

SPs: Darvish, Severino, Tanaka (assuming he doesn't opt out this year), Montgomery, Adams

NY will also push hard for Otani whenever he is available, and if they get Darvish on board, that will help as Darvish is Otani's friend and training partner. Justus Sheffield should also be ready by 2019 Opening Day, maybe Acevedo too, and as you mention, hopefully Kaprielian will bounce back from his injury issues.

Bullpen: Chapman, Betances, and then who knows. NY has a lot of big arms at every level in the system, but most of them are currently starters, not relievers.

Billy Fleming just got promoted from AA to AAA which makes me think the corresponding move here is Holliday to the DL and not Refsnyder back to AAA where he belongs.

Carter DFA. Again. Ji Man Choi up and will be the starter. Choi has been terrible against lefties and has flirted on and off with switch hitting but they don't seem to facing any lefties until after the break. Otherwise he is probably an offensive and definitely defensive upgrade over Carter.

I wouldn't be so sure about the defense, Carter is actually around average and Choi might not be.

Oh, I am not sure about anything concerning a 26 year old journeyman. I thought Choi's reputation was about average at 1b, though, and Carter looks absolutely lost all around.

Not sure what thread to put this in, but more and more NY's next big move seems like it needs to be to trade or even DFA Ellsbury. He has something like $78M left on his deal through 2020, maybe NY can get someone to pay something like 3/18 of that and pick up the other $60M. That is a huge amount but of course it's a sunk cost and it will free up necessary ABs. This is their current OF depth without Ellsbury:

Frazier/Gardner/Judge, Mason Williams can be the 4th OF until Hicks is back, and keeping Gardner around into 2018 is insurance to see how Dustin Fowler comes back from his injury next year.

Behind those guys are Billy McKinney (a 2013 first round pick and former top 100 prospect who is starting to play like it again) and Tito Polo (coming on in AA recently) plus the always overlooked Jake Cave (1.053 OPS in AAA). Behind those guys are top 100 prospects in low A, Blake Rutherford (#36 on the new BA list) and Estevan Florial (#70 on the same list).

NY needs to be thankful they have built up so much young OF depth since the inane Ellsbury signing and move on from it, ASAP I think.

Randy Levine's recent belch of incoherence has presumably made the Bird situation even more tricky, and it was confusing enough already with no one being able to pinpoint the physical cause or really help it. Presumably that's why NY snuck him into BP for Staten Island the last two days without telling anyone, he made it through that, so now he will evidently start rehab games in AA or AAA again.

Probably a minor deal but Tyler Webb traded to the Brewers, hopefully freeing up another 40 man spot.

Cooper has hilarious splits, .300/.359/.500 on the road (in a hitter's league) and a ridiculous 442/.503/.829 at home, in the best hitter's park in the PCL (Colorado Springs).

NY needs to make a bunch of moves this weekend, let me take a shot:

Friday: They are currently at 24 active players because they traded Webb, so Holliday is activated in that spot (they have eight relievers still). Also I would like to activate Cooper and send down Refsnyder and give Cooper ABs against all the lefty starters in Fenway, but not sure if they will do that.
Saturday: Castro is supposed to be back, so I'm guessing they send down Wade to get consistent ABs again.
Sunday: Montgomery gets activated as the 26th man for the doubleheader and sent back down for a few days after the game, to be reactivated once his turn comes up again.

Hmm, something else is happening also because they have Montgomery slated for tonight now and Mitchell on Sunday, no CC or Pineda in this series.

Cashman is really loading up on mediocre first basemen in AA and AAA, not sure what happens now with Choi/Mike Ford/McBroom between AA and AAA, plus Cooper and Tyler Austin are redundant if Austin ever gets healthy.

So to reset, this is the current team post-trading deadline:

C: Sanchez
1B: Headley/Cooper (Tyler Austin starting rehab games this week, Bird potentially back in late August)
2B: Torreyes/Wade until Castro is back
SS: Didi
3B: the lesser Frazier
LF: the greater Frazier
CF: Gardner (Hicks starting rehab games this week)
RF: Judge
DH: Holliday

bench: Romine, Ellsbury, Cooper/Headley, Wade/Torreyes

Severino
Gray
Tanaka
Sabathia
Garcia/Montgomery

rotating 7th reliever
Warren
Green
Kahnle
Betances
Robertson
Chapman

Surprised the Yankees didn't trade Shreve for something. Made a nice comeback, still controlled for a few years, and he doesn't really fit with the super bullpen that the Yankees have created

40 man roster expansion is Friday and NY has more potential guys who can help than at any time that I can remember. I'll attempt a list:

Guys on the DL: Holliday is rehabbing in AAA and will be back Friday, Clint Frazier and Garrett Cooper I'm not sure about, same with Cessa.

Other guys on the 40 man: All eleven guys currently in AAA who are on the 40 man have played for NY this year, it's just a question of who Cashman wants to take from Scranton on Friday and who he will leave for later. The list:

Miguel Andujar
Tyler Austin
Giovanny Gallegos
Domingo German
Ben Heller
Ronald Herrera
Kyle Higashioka
Jonathan Holder
Bryan Mitchell
Jordan Montgomery (up tomorrow as the 26th man for the doubleheader)
Tyler Wade

Higashioka is hurt, Herrera has only pitched a few low level rehab games, but the other nine guys should all be ready to go when called.

Non-40 man options: Not sure how they could get anyone new on the 40 man at this point, but Nick Rumbelow and Jake Cave would be great September additions. Rumbelow has given up 2 ERs in 28 AAA innings on his way back from Tommy John, fantastic numbers across the board, and Cave has been playing like a IL MVP candidate for the last couple of months. Also they will need a 40 man spot to add another catcher during the Sanchez/Romine suspensions, the only possibility I see for not losing someone is maybe Cessa to the 60 day DL, but I'm not sure if he'd go for that or if he's even really hurt.

So, yeah, the bench is going to be full in a few weeks.

Holliday definitely back tomorrow, no news on anyone else yet. Miguel Andujar would almost certainly be the best primary DH option immediately (I don't believe Holliday will make it back to himself this year), crossing my fingers there but not optimistic.
