With Ben Rice up, Agustin Ramirez got a well deserved promotion to AAA.

Thoughts on Jared Serna? He’s been bouncing up the fangraphs minor league rankings I use for dynasty.

Edit. Oh of course Jon abbey was on this dude 6 weeks ago.

If guys aren't mega-prospects, I don't pay too much attention to them below AA, but Serna has been playing SS all season for high A and should get a promotion soon. He is rule-5 eligible so NY needs to figure out what they have in him a bit better, hopefully he'll get promoted to AA soon.

Jack Neely got promoted to AAA today, he is a 6'8" reliever with 51 Ks in 31 innings in AA this year. NY needs bullpen upgrades, will be interesting to see if they give Neely a shot.

Spencer Jones has had a rough year in AA but maybe broke out of it today, 4-5 with a BB, 2 HRs, 7 RBIs in a 13-3 win. OPS up to .750...

Spencer Jones won league player of the week, and exciting news that Chase Hampton, likely NY's top pitching prospect, finally got into his first game of the year, in the FCL.

First day back for minor league baseball also, and the pitchers seem to be well ahead of the hitters again. NY's 4 teams gave up a combined 0 ERs on just 4 hits, including an awesome no-hitter for high A Hudson Valley. They threw nine hitless innings but the game was still scoreless until Roc Riggio went deep in the bottom of the 9th, winning the game and giving them a no-hitter with one swing of the bat:

Taylor Trammell is not a prospect anymore as he is 26 and has been through a few organizations, but Cashman picked him up and stashed him in AAA in April, and he has gone nuts the last couple of weeks. He was a top 100 prospect four years running from 2018-21 (a bit like our own Estevan Florial), but hit a AAAA wall, similar to Florial.

Anyway, Trammell homered on July 28 for Scranton and hasn't stopped since, homering in 8 of the 12 games since then (!!!!), 8 HRs in his last 39 ABs. NY wants to get Dominguez everyday ABs in AAA for now, so Trammell might be ahead of him if NY needs a OF callup in August.

Roderick Arias has only been OK in low A this year, he doesn’t turn 20 until next month.

But today in 15 innings over a doubleheader he was 5-7 with a walk, a HR (11) and 3 SBs (31).

The statistical similarity of Spencer Jones' and Aaron Judge's age 23 seasons in the minors is kind of funny.

Jones 2024: .259/.336/.452, 30 2B, 6 3B, 17 HRs in 544 PAs
Judge 2015: .255/.330/.448, 26 2B, 3 3B, 20 HRs in 540 PAs

Judge's was 1 half a level higher (AA/AAA vs just AA for Jones) and he struck out significantly less, though - Jones has a 36.8% K rate and Judge's was around 27%. Regardless, Jones is clearly on track to win multiple MVPs

Jones has definitely struggled at times this year but seems to be coming on strong at the end, very glad Cashman did not move him.

I haven't been paying much attention to Arizona Fall League for understandable reasons, but Caleb Durbin is there for the second straight year, and he again is stealing bases like prime Rickey Henderson. Last year he had 21 SBs (2 CS) there in just 23 games, this winter he currently has 14 (1 CS) in 13 games. Two days ago he led off and did this:

1st inning (score 0-0): single, steals second, steals third, scores on a SF.
6th inning (losing 4-3): go ahead three run HR with two outs.
8th inning (tied 6-6): single, steals second, steals third, scores the winning run on an infield hit.

Durbin got named Player of the Week in the AFL today, then he hit a game-winning grand slam in the 7th this afternoon.

He ended up 1-2 with a SF, two HBPs and 4 (!!), now he has 27 in 22 games and 115 in 204 games since the start of 2023 (just 15 CS).

This is what Boone said about him today:

Aaron Boone on Caleb Durbin:

"I think he's a stud... Great bat-to-ball, elite ability on the bases... I think he's gonna play a big, big role for us this upcoming season."

With Durbin emerging, is it time to trade Peraza? He didn't break through last season, and between Jazz/Volpe/Berti/Durbin/Cabrera covering down on the infield/utility roles, it looks like he might be the odd man out.

They may be in a position where they're trying to save money on guys like Berti (in the $4m range, I think) in which case he'd be the most likely guy to go of that group. A lot is dependent on Soto, of course.

Peraza is out of options though, so unless he has a clear path to a roster spot, he may be Florial-ed. It's sad he never got a real chance, but a big chunk of that was him being unable to stay healthy and having bad timing with his injuries (when they needed him, he was hurt, when he was healthy, they didn't need him).

Another ridiculous day for Durbin: 3-5 with a BB, 2B, HR, 4 RBIs and 2 SBs.
