I like it.Wow, that's crazy! I had to check what grade 9 year olds are typically in, 4th grade!!!
NY seems to be focusing on lefty pitchers this draft like they did catchers last one, 3 of the first 6 picks are LHPs.
I mean, how can this be true? I can't believe a 9 year old hit 2 homers off of 70mph pitches.Just learned that my son once threw BP at a clinic to Anthony Volpe and to Jack Leiter. Volpe took my boy deep twice.
At the time, my son was a good (for NYC) high school pitcher and he said he was throwing the BP in the mid-70s.
And at the time, Volpe was 9 years old. Nine.
My son still calls it one of the most remarkable things he ever saw.
Short porch at Yankee StadiumI mean, how can this be true? I can't believe a 9 year old hit 2 homers off of 70mph pitches.
They will have to, their entire pool is basically committed to Jasson Dominguez (see separate thread) and they are linked to another top 20 guy also. The international signing period begins on July 2, yes? Any word on whether or not the Yankees plan to trade for more pool money, as they did last year?
Deivi Garcia! I looked him up. He’s 5-foot-9. Must be the next Tom Gordon.Nope, one more inning, 6 1 0 0 1 15 on 98 pitches, final line. He just turned 20 last month and is crushing AA, hope they can keep him at the deadline.
The Reading manager calls Deivy “the best pitcher in this league.”Deivi starting to get appropriate attention. Seeing his name pop up in fantasy advice columns, reddit, twitter...
So Cashman planting stories to increase his trade value? The Reading manager calls Deivy “the best pitcher in this league.”
That was in a Philly newspaper. They cover Reading. So Cashman planting stories to increase his trade value?
Yes, I did. True quote was “That’s about as good as it gets in our league.”You kind of mangled the quote, though.
Good for Morrison. Bad that nobody signed him before spring training. He hit 38 homers in 2017, then stunk up the joint in Minneapolis last year, hitting .186 with 15 HRs.As predicted above, Logan Morrison opted out of his AAA deal with NY after they promoted Mike Ford to fill in for Voit. Ford was already on the 40 man and has been at least as good as Morrison, but LoMo should probably be getting big league ABs somewhere soon.
I liked that the second Yankee pitcher got a save.Wow, everyone in the lineup got at least 2 hits, even the 2 guys who didn't start. That's an amazing boxscore.
Unless the Yanks decide to rely on their bullpen in the playoffs. If Betances comes back, and Garcia is added to the 40-man in September, the bullpen could take on extra duties in October. Yanks’ starters are good for about 5 innings in heavy stress situations.Garcia does have to be on the 40 man this winter, so that shouldn’t hold him back, but I’ll be surprised to see him in the bigs this year barring a wave of injuries to their relievers.
Sure, but:Unless the Yanks decide to rely on their bullpen in the playoffs. If Betances comes back, and Garcia is added to the 40-man in September, the bullpen could take on extra duties in October. Yanks’ starters are good for about 5 innings in heavy stress situations.
You’re right. It would be asking too much of a 20-year-old. Unless Betances can’t make it back. Hard to forget Frankie Rodriguez coming up in 2002 at age 20.Sure, but:
Green
Kahnle
Betances
Ottavino
Britton
Chapman
Plus a starter or two bumped from the rotation. I guess it's possible but I don't believe he is actually being fast tracked for this season.
Funny, two of those five, Abreu pitched six scoreless today and Pereira hit his first HR.Nice job here by NJ.com on five Yankee prospects who have stumbled this season, including Florial, Abreu and Medina.

A fair assessment, Jon. Pereira is very young and should not be judged. On the other hand, Abreu is almost 24 and Acevedo is 25.Funny, two of those five, Abreu pitched six scoreless today and Pereira hit his first HR.
Acevedo is the one of those five that has been quite disappointing so far, this is his second year on the 40 man and he does not look close to being able to contribute. He might be one of the guys moved at the deadline to clear 40 man space. Abreu is a little disappointing, but has also shown signs at times. Medina is a mess but still very young, Florial needs to stay healthy and pile up ABs and Pereira just turned 18 in April (!) so I wouldn't judge him at all for another year or two.
