Make that 1 more Tyler to go. Chris Carter DFAed, Tyler Austin called up, and is in today's starting lineup.Tyler Webb gets the call to the majors, Rob Refsnyder sent down to SWB. 2 more Tylers to go.
http://cdn.espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/19771081/dustin-fowler-new-york-yankees-ruptures-patellar-tendon-debutGirardi blamed what he described as an electrical box that was at the top of the short wall for the severity of the injury.
"I'm not blaming the White Sox, but it is something that needs to be inspected," Girardi said. "It should've been padded or not put there or put lower because if the kid doesn't hit the electrical box, he might still be hurt but my guess is he doesn't rupture his patellar tendon."
Girardi also said MLB needs to figure out a better plan than having the short walls in foul territory in the outfield. He said plexiglass, like in hockey, should be considered.
FWIW, the White Sox said they don't think he actually hit the box after looking at a bunch of replays. I just think he was running way way way too fast, geeked up for his first inning in the bigs after a three hour rain delay and more used to playing CF (although he has played RF, 14 games there this year).I wonder why the box couldn't go on the other side of the wall?
He finished 4-4, 8-14 with 5 walks in 4 games in AA now.NY lost a top prospect for the year in Fowler but they may have regained one in Mateo, who is killing it since being promoted to AA, 2-2 with a bases loaded triple so far tonight.
Well, it seems as if the Yankees went hard after high-end pitching talent in the amateur draft (I think the first 9 out of 10 picks were pitchers). With the strategy that they were going to load up on offense internationally. It seems to me like the bargain international signings pay off as often as the high profile ones, hard to really differentiate kids when they're 16. Happy to keep filling the pipeline though...
I should have been more clear. I was thinking more of using him as trade bait. He's only played 2B and SS in AA so far (4 games), but with the Fowler injury, all of a sudden there is a possible opening for long-term CF, where he played 22 games in high A earlier this year.
But NY needs a CF, they are honestly covered long-term at almost every position if guys work out and that makes more sense than trading for short-term fixes while giving up guys who may be part of the long-term future. They do need a 1B if Bird isn't the answer, but they have plenty of pitching in the pipeline plus Tanaka's status is unclear (if he doesn't opt out, they have three rotation spots filled for 2018, and if he does, they only have two). If you want external pitching, Darvish in free agency seems to me like the best answer.I should have been more clear. I was thinking more of using him as trade bait.
He has barely pitched two years in a row now, he wouldn't be in my top 10 NY prospect list either until he gets back and shows he has the same stuff. Fowler is a question mark too, Torres' injury seems like a more definite full recovery. Not sure why Kap's injury should knock him off the list.
The reports have been glowing, hitting 97 on the FB and his pitch counts always seem to be very low. There is video of some of his strikeouts here:I'd love to see a scouting report on how Tate is doing. Is he just hot and winning games, or is his stuff now where people thought it would be.
