LoHud said this morning Pirela feels better but hasn't resumed baseball drills yet, let alone do BP or take grounders. Won't be ready for Opening Day barring a miracle.

Feinsand says Drew will play SS tomorrow, just to get some reps, I guess. Does this open the door for Refsnyder to make the roster? Yanks could put Nova on 60-day DL to create a spot.

Drew could be backup SS and 2B. That might fit his low offensive profile better.

Girardi said after the game today that Refsnyder's name will be "talked about a lot." For a team with offensive issues, he might provide some help.

A bit surprising, Whitley sent down and Shreve and Chris Martin make the team (assuming Andrew Bailey doesn't). I'm thinking that maybe Whitley pitched so well this spring that he is now NY's 6th starter (with Capuano and Nova out) and so they want him to stay stretched out in AAA.

Also Refnsyder and Noonan sent down , so Petit is almost certainly the backup infielder to start the year, no surprise there. Pirela will probably bump him as soon as he's ready.

And the last spot is backup catcher, Murphy helped himself there by going 2 for 2 with a walk and a double today. Cashman should probably just bite the bullet on Romine and keep Murphy, NY really needs all the offense they can get (Cervelli with 4 HRs in the spring for PIT, yoiks).

Who would you rather have as utility infielder -- Gregorio Petit or Broken Down Brendan Ryan?

I think they're pretty similar, and with Didi on board, Ryan isn't even a defensive upgrade at SS anymore. Can I vote for Pirela? :)

Anybody but Ryan is fine by me.

Now ESPN is screwing the Yankees. Sunday night game this evening against Texas, then a 1 p.m. game Monday afternoon against KC. If you figure the players should be in the clubhouse by 10 a.m. on Monday morning, and they'll probably be leaving tonight around midnight, that leaves precious little time for A-Rod to chase a hooker or find a good poker game somewhere.

Solution: keep losing games, fans stop watching, ESPN chooses another team for Sunday Night Baseball.
Into the third season of mediocrity. ESPN hasn't noticed?
