The Nationals claimed Matt Thornton and NY just let him go, to get rid of his 2015 contract. Jacob Lindgren, come on down?

So signing him to a two year deal was kind of odd, but just giving him away doesn't make any more sense. Do they see one of Francis and Capuano being their top setup man when Huff comes back to earth?
 
edit - I suppose it could be Rich Hill, which might make some sense if he can stay on the mound.

I haven't seen Thornton pitch much, but his numbers looked good.  Seems quite odd to me.

He hasn't pitched for Boston since 2012, and then only threw 31 innings in three seasons for them. It's not like they went out and picked up Daniel Bard or Papelbon.
