I wonder if that is a fake injury to keep his innings down. I hope, at least.
That wouldn't make sense with how thin the starting pitching depth is for the organization after the trade deadline. What are they going to do if there's a "real" injury to someone in the rotation while Nestor is on the 15 day IL?

I think it’s phantom also and the answer to the previous post is they had no good answers with Schmidt in the pen anyway. In either case, I think the answer is actually Deivi Garcia, let’s hope we don’t find out before Severino or Nestor is back.

40 man they can put Bader on the 60 day, he’s been on almost that long already (6/27).

I think this is one reason why people hate Yankees fans. Lots are so delusional. Pretty much the only fanbase in baseball that thinks that Phantom IL is something their team regularly does. This is, what, the fourth pitcher in the past month to hit the so called Phantom IL? Severino, Holmes, Abreu and now Nestor?

Severino publicly complained about going to the 60 day IL, Abreu would have been DFAd otherwise, Holmes’ mechanics were a mess, and Nestor’s innings are at a career high. All make sense individually, I’m not claiming anything definitively.

Ugh..because it's common for teams to do this when they're up 9 games? The Yankees rest their position players at a pretty crazy clip. Also, nobody said Severino was on the phantom IL, they said - because the pitcher himself said - that they didn't understand how they could push him on the 60 day if he was getting ready to return. I never heard peep about Holmes or Abreu.

Regardless, the starting rotation is not thin at all. We've got too many pitchers actually, still. Cole, Montas, German, Taillon, Schmidt, Severino, Cortes and more depth from AAA to burrow from in spot starts.

And I hate Yankee fans despite being one my whole life, maybe every fanbase sucks when you pay close attention but NY’s is truly awful.

You always say this and it's usually not worth disagreeing because it's kind of a subjective thing but man, I don't know. Our fans are knuckleheads at our worst but on average it's a pretty tame fan base IMO. If you want the crazy fanbase, look at LA or Philly. To me, Boston and NY fans are just there for the day out and a baseball game with the obvious wild cards in the crowd.

Yeah I don’t mean at game fans although interfering with balls in play that will hurt NY is always dumb. I mean the discussion around the team, it’s why we’re on a Sox site.

Fair. But it balances out because every other one of the NY sports teams (Rangers notwithstanding) suck and our fans suffer. Mets aren't a NY team. They're like an alien race that moved to Queens.

Confirmed, Bader is the 40 man move to get Weissert on the roster, Florial down, Nestor to the IL, Stanton back, Weissert added to the 40 man and promoted.

Clay Holmes threw a 17 pitch BP session yesterday that had Boone and others raving that he is back to early season form. They plan to activate him Monday when he is eligible, hurrah.

Who went down to accommodate Holmes return? I checked a couple of sites but all they have is Marwin Gonzales going on the paternity list and Locastro replacing him. Unless I'm missing something, I thought another move was needed to get Holmes back on active roster?

Luke Bard got sent down after yesterday's game, that is Holmes' spot.

Some tough decisions are going to need to be made here shortly if rehabbing guys impress. NY can have nine relievers active, currently that is:

Ryan Weber
Clarke Schmidt
Lucas Luetge
Greg Weissert
Ron Marinaccio
Lou Trivino
Wandy Peralta
Jonathan Loaisiga
Clay Holmes

NY already announced Chapman is back for the next game, so that will probably be Weber DFAd one more time, as German and Schmidt can both be long guys now. Severino is scheduled to start next Wednesday (Weissert sent down, I'd guess), Effross, Britton, Castro, Abreu and Ridings are all on their way back too to one degree or another, time is running out and roster spots are tight.

OK, let's update this, and I am leaving out Jacob Barnes and Chi Chi Gonzalez as presumably both will be gone by Monday.

Currently active:

Domingo German
Clarke Schmidt
Lucas Luetge
Aroldis Chapman
Scott Effross
Ron Marinaccio
Lou Trivino
Jonathan Loaisiga
Clay Holmes

Wandy needs to come back (I don't think he was actually hurt) and bump either Luetge or Chapman. Holmes just got a cortisone shot and is not pitching the rest of the regular season but last I heard they expected him OK for the ALDS.

Castro and Abreu are with the team and ready to go if needed, Weissert is presumably staying ready somewhere too. Ridings has been ruled out, same with Britton. Montas also could be a 2-3 inning option, wonder if he will get a test outing in TEX.

Wandy will not be activated for the regular season but will stay ready at the site NY has set up in Somerset (same with Matt Carpenter), Miguel Castro will be activated for the four games in Texas.

Marinaccio has a shin injury that has been bothering him throughout the season. Doesn't sound like he's at risk for the playoffs.

"The shin thing's kind of just been a lingering issue I've been dealing with all year," Marinaccio said. "So it was just a little bit more fired up. I don't know if it was not bouncing back from last outing, I just didn't bounce back as well, but it was just a little hotter today."

Marinaccio is scheduled to have an MRI, with manager Aaron Boone saying the team will wait until the results Monday to make a decision on the right-hander's availability for the rest of the season. Marinaccio had an MRI on the injury earlier this season, but testing came back negative.

"It's just that time of the year where some wear and tear but you know, shouldn't be any issues," said Marinaccio, who described the ailment as soreness on the bone and not a shooting pain. He added that if his MRI comes back clean he plans to join the team in Texas for their final four games of the regular season.
