Nook randomly shuts off

Just the other day my Nook just randomly starting turning off. The charge would drop within about 10-15 minutes from 100% to like 85% and then it would shut off. If I turned it on, it came on, then shut back off. Then, when I reconnect to charger, it's IMMEDIATELY at 100% again.

My Google-fu isn't strong enough to figure out what's happening--I keep getting results about my battery being old, but it's not, it's a relatively new device, about 2 years old, just a 7" tablet.

When I keep it plugged in, it doesn't turn off, but obviously that makes it difficult to read comfortably.

I cannot help you at all, as the troubles with my Nook were completely different. But I did eventually get an update that seems to have fixed my problem. Have you connected the Nook to the internet to see if there's an update?

My wife's Nook Simple Touch had this issue a few years ago. Hers is about 8 years old. The battery calibration gets out of whack sometimes. To fix it, we took it apart and disconnected the battery, let it sit a few minutes, and then reconnected the battery. It's been fine since. Is yours an eInk screen or a color LCD?

FWIW, 2 years isn't that new for an Li ion battery. Lifespan is compromised to get the energy density in a small form factor. If you take it apart and the battery is bulging, it's the battery.

I do not seem to have the most recent software update, but I've had it connected to wifi and it's not downloading anything.

color LCD. Yeah, I guess as devices go 2 years is nearing replacement time. Which wouldn't be a big deal, but hoping I can fix.
