I'd kick the tires on Schoop if Pedroia hangs them up. Would be nice for an all-Dutch Antilles MIF.

Strickland too.

Kind of want Webster back too, but don't know why.

If Fiers isn't hurt, I don't get that non-tender. He finished the season. Is he hurt?

He just threw 172 IP of 3.56 ERA baseball, albeit with a FIP a run or so worse than his ERA. He'll be Arb3, and he earned $6m in 2018.

That looks to me like a very useful 5/6 starter likely available for a fair price. You'd expect him to have trade value...

Why did the Cubs trade for Torreyes just to non tender him?

I heard some talk yesterday that Fiers was a clubhouse issue when he wasn't on the Wild Card roster (e.g. he probably wanted to start the game, even though a bullpen game from the A's was obviously coming). Wonder if that had anything to do with it.

The wrong side of the bridge....
Possibly dumb question -- does non-tendering a player wipe out their arbitration eligibility, or does any team picking up a non-tender as an FA face the same arb salary issue that caused the non-tender in the first place?

I'm pretty sure that the player would have to agree to sign with a new team, and therefore could hammer out whatever contact they are willing to sign.

Yes. The team that non tendered him can sign him to a lesser deal too. We traded Hatteberg for Pokey Reese and both were cut. We ended up signing Pokey to a 1mil deal when he was projected to get like 4. He made 2.5mil the previous year. . Hatteberg signed with a different team all together.

The Red Sox did trade Hatteberg for Pokey but didn’t sign him until 2 years later.
