I'd package both of them if we could get a decent corner outfielder

I believe that Nomar used PEDs, but only during the winter before the SI photo. His best power years were early in his career when he looked wiry. After discovering that his joints and tendons couldn't withstand the extra bulk he never used PEDs again.

Lefty Grove's career OPS+:  6, with a 0.417 OPS and 15 career HR's.

Pedro's career OPS+:  -32, with a 0.256 OPS and 0 career HR's.

So, there's that...

Look at that SI cover again.

It's not like he looks like a blown up WWE superstar, or he has some impossibly shredded 6-pack.

I don't know if he did PEDs and I sincerely don't care. But the way he looks on that cover could certainly be from good nutrition, legal supplements, and a serious workout regimen.

Plus, I'm sure that pic was heavily airbrushed.

Its not scientific at all, but of all the famous steroid users who of them have really broken down towards the end of their career?
I've never understood this. McGwire "broke down" early and was a PED user, so therefore Nomar breaking down early proves he was a PED user, but Bonds and Clemens had freakishly long careers because of their PED use, so...

Frankly, I don't see how anybody could be surprised by proof that a player of that era was a PED user, since it appears to have been so prevalent, but breaking down early is hardly sufficient proof.

Those numbers can be misleading.

For a majority of both men's career, about 1/2 a run more per game was scored during Grove's time compared to Pedro's, that should impact his ERA and his FIP. In addition, Grove's era also included about one more hit per game then Pedro's, which impacts his WHIP. Strikeouts and K/9 are pretty much garbage stats when comparing the two. There were twice as many Ks per game when Pedro played when compared to Grove. Like it or not, Grove is right there with Pedro.
It's almost like you don't understand math.

When there is an elephant in the room, always best to discuss it.  Nomar sure did break down physically in the end...

Advantage: Nomar.
