The De Ligt commentary is interesting. I know he didn’t perform at Juventus but from everything I’ve read, he’s performed well at Bayern when fit. I know the fan base wouldn’t be excited to lose him.

if Yoro indeed signs, I could still see De Ligt coming in and would be excited for it.

Any idea what Nico could go for? I'm personally shocked Barca has the funds to buy him and then pay him.
Release clause is €58 million plus all taxes. Nico is on a high salary too. Barcelona are “close” to being allowed 1:1 transfers again. That would mean that they need to sell off the same amount in transfers and salaries to make it work.

Serge Roberto just left the club because he grew tired of waiting for the club to register him.

I’m going to look for further confirmation, but did United staple a 20% sell on fee to Greenwood just to get him a loan???

View: https://twitter.com/utdtruthful/status/1815284812548096151?s=46&t=GfuLFvTYcOxcFiCZjyIYZw

Edit: I get it conceptually - Getafe took on a toxic player to help United rebuild Greenwood’s value exactly for a transfer. But still, wow.
It certainly sounds that way. I've never heard of it before but obviously a very unusual situation.

Under the terms of that loan arrangement, Getafe will net 20 per cent of the money from Greenwood’s sale to Marseille, who are paying an initial €23.6 million (£19.9 million) up front with a further €8 million (£6.7 million) in add-ons. Half of those extras – around £3.4 million – will be guaranteed if Greenwood stays at Marseille for three years. The rest of the add-ons are related to appearances and performance.

This has been percolating at the rumor stage for a couple of windows now. With Onana's departure Everton could use another mid, although whether we could most use a 6, 8, or 10, and where McKennie would fit in, are both question marks. Gueye is our best defensive mid, but he is not a pure 6- he follows the ball wherever it is and wins it back, his positional discipline is quite poor. Doucoure has excelled as a 9 1/2 - a second striker playing behind the 9 or an attacking mid- but he is not a slick passer as per the usual model of a 10 - more like headless chicken energy but with a knack for arriving in the right spot at the right time. Both of those guys are on the wrong side of 30, and Doucoure in particular leads the PL in km every season before breaking down. So yes, we could probably use him, but the knock on him as being fat and out of shape has not endeared him to the Everton fans so far.

There's rumblings that Liverpool have made inquires about Arda Guler. Madrid have been very clear that he's not going anywhere, so I'm thinking this is Liverpool sending some warning shots that they'll unsettle Guler if Madrid approach Trent.

Good business here by Everton. Toffees badly need pace out wide, and Danish international Lindstrom has it. Lindstrom never gelled at Napoli, after two good seasons at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Perennial rumor Gionto from Leeds seems closer to fruition too. As an attacking group behind/alongside the striker, Gionto, Ndaiye, and Lindstrom is.... not shabby?

I was already worried that Rayo Vallecano would be in a relegation fight this season, but the signing of Adri Embarba has me convinced that they are destined for the drop. He’s been relegated five times already. Three of those came with Rayo Vallecano (!!!) and the two others were the last two seasons (Espanyol and Almería). I don’t know what the record is, but it’s damn impressive.

Embarba is not a popular player in Vallecas and I’m starting to wonder if owner Raul Martin Presa is playing 4D chess by enraging the fans so much that they burn the stadium to the ground. That way he can collect the insurance money and build a new stadium outside of Vallecas, which is what he wants to do anyways.

David Garcia to Al-Rayyan in the Qatari league. He’s gotten a few Spanish caps in the recent past. He is a legend in Pamplona being a local kid who scored one of the most important goals in club history that helped save them from relegation to the 3rd tier (and likely the death of the club). Needless to say, I hate this, and I am getting worried about Osasuna’s ability to stay in La Liga.

Gallagher is off to Atletico Madrid after rejecting Chelsea's contract offer. Seems like a weird move for him, and Chelsea are losing the home grown player.

Barcelona look to be closing in on Dani Olmo. He’s a former La Masia player who obviously really shined at the Euros. Perhaps this means that Nico will be staying at Athletic?!?!

Atleti really need to turn over their aging roster. I think that the are focused on CB and striker, but any player who fits and comes at a discount is someone that they will take regardless of immediate need. Gallagher can be used in different ways in the midfield and seems to have some grit about him (admittedly I haven’t seen him play that much) so he’s likely a fit for Simeone.

Some say "losing a homegrown player", but soulless finance guys say "booking pure profit, baby!"

Which is not wrong, but the open discussion of it and seemingly increased weight on it is my most hated development in how transfers are publicly thought about over the past two years or so, just feels so gross to me.

Helps balance the books from all the throwing darts at a list of 19 year old footballers and probably buys them another dart or two.

I’ve seen reporting that the clubs have reached agreement, but that the player hasn’t signed off yet, has that changed? Happened earlier with a potential move to Villa, as well.

He's in the last year of his contract, right? Very much in his financial interest to wait six months and get that free agent money unless he gets a tremendous salary offer now, otherwise he's just helping Chelsea out of the goodness of his heart after they've amply demonstrated that they don't give a fuck about him, which must be a bit painful for him as he seems to be on the more romantic side of being an academy player.

Oriol Romeu is going back to Girona. He played there in 22-23 and was very good. He transferred to Barcelona, where he had played as a youngster before his transfer to Chelsea, and didn’t quite cut it. He stood out in a negative way in the first Clásico where Barca fell apart when he came on the field (it was one of their better performances of the season until he came on).

Anyways, he loves both the city and the club in Girona, and he wasn’t keen on leaving in the first place. In Spain, all players must have a release clause in their contract. If the buying club triggers the release clause, the player must physically go to Madrid and pay the release clause in person. If the buying club pays more than the clause (or the clubs agree to less), the player does not pay it in person. Barca did Romeu a solid and paid Girona a little extra for him because he could not bear the thought of paying the clause in person. Now they’re sending him back to his second home.

That's kinda batshit but good to hear Barca doing nice things for their players for a change.

I still don't think they land Olmo or Williams this summer. They still don't have money, and until the new Camp...Nou is ready, I wouldn't rely on that money.

Atleti appear to be signing Gallagher.

Some speculation that Chelsea will then buy Omorodion, which might then help Atleti complete the deal for Alvarez.

Sorthloth and Omorodion do seem quite redundant so there is some logic to that sequence in theory.

Yeah, the latest is that Gallagher signed off on the move finally, so should be done pending medicals. Always sad to see a home grown player leave, especially one who seemed to adore playing for his home club, but if they want to play a technical, possession based game then he isn’t a perfect fit and his strengths should be well utilized elsewhere, plus I’m sure they need that pure profit sales fee to help balance the books after all the spending. Lavia will theoretically get his playing time, if he can stay healthy.

I’m ready to be annoyed by a shockingly low fee for a young player on a long contract. If we bid on him the selling club would quote 120m minimum and we will probably sell him for half that

The market has been really depressed this summer in general. Leny Yoro is still the most expensive player to move at a transfer fee of 62m euro fixed and 70m euro with bonuses. I think in that context getting 70m+ pounds is not too bad.

He seems like a tricky player to replace though since he was effectively cover for both KDB and Haaland and that kind of second striker is a bit of dying breed.

Maybe Bobb can pick up the attacking midfielder part of those minutes? He has looked very sharp in pre-season from the little I have seen City.

So with the money being close Chelsea basically swapped one of their best midfielders from last year for a 20 YO striker with 9 goals in his league career?

Club is consistent I guess.

Gonna be really interesting when all these Chelsea youngsters turn 21 and need to be registered to play in the PL. Don't think they'll have space for all of them.

I think Bobb has looked great but will play wide. The problem with selling for a relatively low fee is that City will not be able to replace this window and who knows what the market is like next window. There’s no replacement out there at the price we are selling him which is why it’s too low

In Samu’s defense, he had 8 league goals as a 19 year old playing for a team that only scored 36 goals. He’s originally from Melilla, grew up in Granada, then gets tossed to the Basque Country. It’s not an easy transition for a teenager. It’s like being born in Puerto Rico, growing up in Miami, then being asked to lead a team in Minnesota in the winter. Clubs have been lining up for Nico Williams, and he scored 5 goals last season and has 11 in his La Liga career. Different players for sure, but the point is you’re paying for promise over production for kids that age.

Samu is huge, he’s fast, he’s got technical quality, he works hard, he’s great in the air, he can pick out a pass, and he makes really smart runs. If he adds a little nuance and a bit more consistency, you’re looking at this being a bargain. Of course, that takes patience at the club level, and I’m not confident Chelsea have that for a striker like Samu.

From Atleti’s POV, they dropped €6 million on him last season, loaned him out, and get back 5-6x ROI while literally just signed paperwork? That would be some good business.

None of my skepticism goes to him specifically really and that was a good primer on his current deal, so thanks.

I think Chelsea's theory of the case that you can build the whole plane out of 19-21 year olds with upside is deeply flawed.

If this deal happens, Atlético did some really good business.

I’m not sure where Atlético is finding the money, but it’s great to see the team spending and really working to improve the team. There’s been an impressive effort to invest in talent this offseason — LeNormand, Sorloth, Gallagher, and maybe Julian Alvaraz.

They’ve offloaded a ton of salaries and really cut into their stadium related debt the last few seasons. They had cut their wage bill pretty significantly going into last season as well, so revenues have been outpacing expenses by quite a bit. I imagine they have an idea of what Felix will get them in a sale, and it’s getting close to time see what some of the older assets like De Paul, Correa, and maybe even Griezmann might get them. Reports today are that this deal is moving forward, few agreed to between the clubs, so it’s down to personal terms.

In other news, Nico Williams has arrived at Lezama ready to play for Athletic.

The meltdown today on Barcelona twitter will be pretty epic.
