Why was Kershaw a no-brainer. When has he been good on three days rest?
Last season's playoffs.  He pitched well on 3 day's rest and then got hit in the start after that (if I recall correctly).

Yep, his 1 game on 3 day's rest in the playoffs last year:  6 IP 3 hits 0 ER 1bb 6K

Then pitched well in NLCS in game 2 and got tattooed in Game 6, both on regular rest.

And it's much better than the alternative of going with Haren.

He was smooth, but he didn't throw the ball all that well, did he?

He had an excellent arm, and even better judgment. Youk 2007 did better scoops on Lugo's bouncers, but in all other respects but running, Turtle was the best ever.

Needless to say, he couldn't run.

You could do a lot worse than Haren.

August:

33.2 IP
3.48 ERA
1.10 WHIP
26:7 K/BB

September:

30.0 IP
2.70 ERA
0.73 WHIP
27:3 K/BB

HanRam worries me that he'll have too many minor injuries to make a very big contract worthwhile.
But the DH spot will most likely be open in a year or two.  Plus, it gives Cecchini another year in AAA to see what we got and if HanRam gets hurt, I wouldn't feel too bad with Garin filling in for a short DL stint.  HanRam can rake and I really feel we need another good bat in the lineup.  Chase Headley just doesn't do it for me.  I'd go 4 or 5 years on him or Panda.  Our lineup needs someone.

What's the feeling on Panda and the whole . . obesity issue?  Looking at Bref, I see that his OPS+ has gone down the last 3 straight years.  He's a bit scary, too, isn't he?

But OPS has gone down league-wide.  You take Panda out of that huge pitcher's park and put him in Fenway where he can take aim at the wall, I think he rakes.  I'd overpay for 4 years on Hanley or Panda. You'd be paying for Panda's age 28,29,30,31 seasons.  Not too worried about his weight.  He can rake, picks it up in the post-season and is underrated on D (as he's shown in the playoffs).  DH him some to give him a rest.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that there are "strong indications" that the Yankees are interested in re-signing Chase Headley.

What a scoop from Heyman. /sarcasm

think I saw this in the 3b thread - but the flip side of that "news" from Heyman:

“I know they have a player under contract,” Headley said in response to a question about Rodriguez. “We’ll see how that shakes out. We’ll see what my role would look like.”
He made it clear he considers himself an everyday player — ideally at third base.
“I feel like that’s what I do the best,” said Headley, who also played first base this season. “I want to be a guy that plays. At what position? Obviously, third base I think is my strongest position. I don’t want to be a part-time guy.”

Wong has hit a few legit HRs this year despite his stature.

Although this is how I prefer to remember him:

That never gets old!  But I am thrilled for Kolten Wong. Been watching him play since high school. Another Hawaii kid!
