I mean, this might fall in line with "use your best reliever in the highest leverage spot", then use someone else later.

Here
Maddon’s using him in the highest leverage situation. Hard not to respect that. Use a lesser reliever in the 9th, that’s fine.

Much as I like the saber save usage for Wade Davis, I'm just concerned about who they have left, although more by quantity than quality of players: Justin Wilson and John Lackey. If this gets tied or if you have the winning run on base, how can you really count on either for a sustained time? Realize both of those are varying degrees unlikely, but it does strike me as concerning.

I'm assuming he's not counting on Davis for 7 outs but what do I know?
Last 7+ out postseason save was under Maddon, I guess that should be considered here? That was Chapman in Game 5 of the World Series, who went the last 2.2, on 42 pitches, although that was only the second of this century.

The way Davis is going if he does get all 7 outs he's likely to have thrown an awful lot of pitches by then. - Well that double play certainly helps.

back to back walks and a cold pinch hitter swings away at the first pitch, awful

You can tell Darling was going to say Royals for Davis, which would be accurate by matchups but not division, heh.

And Lind, wow, you can't be that undisciplined. Unbelievable. What a swing of things, good play or not.

Was Lind thinking he couldn't throw strikes so swing at the first pitch a get me over pitch? That was season endingly bad

I am not a Nats fan, but they're killing me in this game.
Can't imagine how I'd feel if this were the Sox missing all these opportunities.
